Quick question to confirm what I think is correct. To add sights to the 930 it is best to bring it to a gunsmith right? I was thinking of going with a 1913 rail for the rear ghostring sight but I'm pretty sure the front has to be welded on. If this is all incorrect please advise me.
Thanks
Eric

Sounds like a task for a gunsmith. The front sight would have to be positioned/aligned perfectly. Please post some pics of the finished product if you would be so kind. The lack of ghost ring sites on the non spx 930 is really the only thing holding me back form buying it. You thinking of going with the LPA sights?

The LPA sights are nice, but they are almost impossible to get. It would be faster to take a canoe across the ocean to Italy and bring them back that way than try to get them from any of their distributors!

I called a vendor today and for installation (silver soldering), re-parkerizing a front sight and the adjustable rear sight with pic. rail was $515 before tax and shipping both ways (est. of $615.80).

With my Brownell's discount, I can order a PSI rear sight for $78.13 US. I am also looking at the Mossberg MX500 sight set. I see it for around $57 and it is adjustable. Just need to pay for installation/parkerizing.

Ordered the rear PSI for $78 + a likely $20 shipping in USD. As long as you keep that invoice under $100, you shouldn't have a problem with import. Use Parcel Post Priority, least expensive shipping option.

One option I just ordered for the Saiga 12 (on the left) from rusmilitary.com in the UK. 44 pounds + Royal Mail air shipping ($15 approx.) (20% off that price because we are outside the European Union). It should fit and if it does, well, that'll be one ###y combo now won't it? :D We'll see when it gets here!

(Hopefully, all of this talking to myself will help someone else source out and sight their Mossberg 930). Good luck!

I'll be honest here. I would be leary of a slip on front sight. You will have to make sure that it is very straight. Also, not sure how comfortable I am with how solid it is. I would be worried of movement and it eventually falling off under recoil. Yes, the slip on is a cheaper option(cost for product and cost of installation) but I am not convinced of it's durability. Also from what I can see those slip on sights are held down by a tension screw(not sure what else to call it) under recoil if it moves you will end up with some pretty nasty scratches on the end of the barrel. If you tighten it down to much it may damage the barrel as well, this I'm not sure could happen.

Good luck to you thought and like I said in the PM's keep me posted.

If it doesn't work out as is, I may consider a welded barrel band behind it and then red loctite the fasteners. After all, most front sight solutions that are this high require welding. The beads are epoxied. If I could put an HK style sight picture on all of my rifles and shotguns I would so it's worth a try and an experiment. All we can do is experiment as the feasible options are so few. I'm not willing to wait any more.

Edit: I may do some research into stippling the barrel with a machinist's punch and then a red loctite. I'll have to consult a gunsmith on this one or change my name to "Bubbaspruce." Heh heh...

Look what came in the mail today, an LPA adjustable rear sight just like the original 930SPX. I will need to have the 930 Home Security receiver tapped and threaded for this installation. Just waiting for the rusmilitary . com Saiga 12 HK style front sight from the UK. Looking forward to that experiment. Here are some photos.

With the rear sight so low and the curved underside of the LPA sight mounted rear/top of the receiver, I may have to spend a little time thinking about what front sight will actually work. Will have to take some measurements. Maybe a plain barrel tritium big dot? Something like this is only $45 from Brownells (that would be the large one on the right). Hmmm...I think this front sight needs to be a little higher.

Looks good. What front sight/bead to you have on your 930 all ready? Those Trijicon sights look very similar to what I have on mine. If that PSI is low enough you may be able to get away with it. Let me know how it matches up.

I have a brass bead sight. That's it. The center of the ghost ring sits 20mm above the receiver to center so it looks like I need a 20mm high front sight or approximate.

My front sight is only 5mm in height so you'd have to switch it out anyway. Do you have the breacher muzzle break on yours?
