Adding sights to Mossberg 930

I am still working this out but no, I should have known that Saiga wouldn't fit! Still need to get a handle on a compatible front sight. Any one with suggestions that would be compatible with a LPA front sight as mentioned earlier?

Trying to find a Trijicon Front Sight only for Remington as pictured. It is JB Welded to the front bead. I have not been able to locate the front sight only however. It seems available only as a set.

XS makes what you need - Brownell's sells them. About $60 + shipping...

ETA - sorry, looked at the pic after. Call XS, they may sell the front blade alone...

Good news. My quest to obtain a 930 SPX-style front and rear sights for the 930 Home Security model may be coming to an end. I received this note from Trijicon this morning.

"Thank you for your patronage of Trijicon products. You can purchase just a front sight only. Model RE04F cost 58.00+10.50 shipping. Currently, we do not have any available to ship they will ship in approximately 2 weeks after the order is placed. If you would like to place an order direct please call our Canadian distributor Italian Sporting Goods at 1-877-225-4741 and they can place that order for you."

That means I will be able to add a Trijicon front sight "night sight" to the 930 Home Security as well as the original LPA Ghost Ring that came with the 930 SPX! Glorious days ahead!

Looking forward to reporting back once the install is complete.

This may even turn out better than the original SPX in my opinion. The Trijicon front sight's design is superior (to me) than the original as shown below. It is lower to the bore and less likely to get knocked off (if that is even possible on the SPX!). Both are JB Welded and the Trijicon has more bonded area at the underside. I prefer the simplicity of the Trijicon dot over the "hi-viz" style tube designs and no "winged" sight picture!

I've got that Trijicon front sight, and the instructions do indicate that it is held on with adhesive (included). I don't think that they stuff is JP Weld...totally different colour and texture.

I should also mention that it is designed to fit over the ramp-mounted front bead as seen on some of the 870 LE models. It has an undercut recess that fits fairly snugly over the rectangular front base. If you try to mount it over a standard bead, you will need more adhesive/epoxy/whatever to fill the volume of the recess, and I question how secure the attachment would be. I'm hesitating on this myself...

I was just steeling myself to start this experiment. Now I think that I'm going to watch how yours works out first!:D

Actually, yes, the JB Weld Part No. 8265-S does not ship with the Trijicon front sight. I planned to use it because of its reputation but I did some research and it indicates that it is resistant to about 260 degrees Celsius (500F). I could not find any data as to 12ga. barrel temperatures so I will wait until I have the proper data. I may be looking at paying a 'Smith for a silver solder. We shall see! I still don't have the part on order. How did you get yours?

JB Weld Part No. 8265-S
Properties (psi)
Tensile Strength: 3960
Adhesion: 1800
Flex Strength: 7320
Tensile Lap Shear: 1040
Shrinkage: 0.0%
Resistant to: 500° F

I may still be able to get a piece of picatinny rail in front of the LPA sight I purchased. The rail height is just under 8mm. I am hoping for a co-witness once I get the front Trijicon installed. We'll see.

Yes, I still need to tap the receiver to mount the LPA sight. From the top of the receiver to the centre of the ghost ring, it is 20mm. Not much height there. I have an 8mm high picatinny rail. I doubt that will help but I'll line it all up once I get the irons installed.

I just picked up the same gun based on a friends glowing recommendation and have just read your thread with interest.

Drilling and tapping the rear sight holes is the easy part. Especially since you've already got at least one pilot hole perfectly located. The hard part is to get that front sight right. It installs over the existing bead, so you don't have to worry too much about alignment, but getting a good bond with any adhesive can be tricky unless you carefully prep the work.

I have installed both the mossberg factory ghost ring sight set and the trijicon/scattergun tech sights using Devcon, acraglass and JB weld. All of these worked well, and I have a story that illustrates this.

I was once climbing a rocky cliff and was trying to haul myself over a ledge when my shotgun slid down from by back and the front sight snagged on the rocks. I was hanging there, 10 meters or so over jagged rocks and struggling like mad to get up and over. I couldn't pull myself up and I was in a bad place. Nothing I did would free the sight and I didnt want to cut the sling and abandon the gun as I was in the back country. So I figured I'd sacrifice the sight. I flailed as hard as I could and that damn front sight would NOT break off. The sling felt like it would give before the sight would. Fearing I wouldnt have the strength left to haul myself back up, I did the only thing I could. I lowered myself down a bit, swung the shotgun back by twisting my body and then quickly hauled myself back up. It all added up to feel like the worlds hardest chinnup. But as I lay there, catching my breath and letting my cramping muscles relax, I looked at my now scuffed up shotgun. I was annoyed by the damage to the finish, but I was ultimately confident in the security of that front sight. That one was held on with a 50/50 mix of acra glass and acra gel.

Just be sure to degrease the barrel very carefully and repeat the process a couple times as oil will seep out of the metal and foul your bonding job. I used a small "C" clamp to secure the sight onto the gun while I left the adhesive to set for a couple days. That probably is a good idea too.

Does anyone know how closely the Trijicon rear sight matches the 930's contours? I also love the LPA sights, but the Trijicon ones are more in my price range.

I am actually debating very hard which to keep, the LPA or the Trijicon rear sight. The LPA ghost ring is thinner, the Trijicon is thicker and provides a better sight picture as the ring is beefier. I like that.

I will be using the Trijicon front sight however. The gunsmith I will be taking this project too is busy for the next 6 weeks so it will be late Oct. before I get it back (it's not even there yet, haven't found the time).

Here is a photo of how close the contours are on the Trijicon rear sight on the Mossberg receiver.

It is so close but I am confident a good gunsmith could install that with modification to the base of the Trijicon. I will ask. I am quite torn between the two right now. I like the simplicity, size and sight picture of the Trijicon far better than the LPA.

It looks like that LPA sight is a perfect fit! I think its a better esthetic match for the gun too.

The trijicon sight looks like a bit of work at the least. I imagine you might run into issues zeroing it if you used that one.

Thanks for the pics!

Any ideas on stocks?

Here is how the LPA sight looks with the receiver mounted ghost ring on a Benelli M4 (the original 930 SPX shotgun's LPA sight is mounted on top of the rail). I am currently waiting for Dlask Arms to get a new charging handle for the Mossberg 930. Other upgrade kits are available from dealer badboybeeson on CGN.

Quick question to confirm what I think is correct. To add sights to the 930 it is best to bring it to a gunsmith right?

I took my Mossberg 930 to 2 different gunsmiths to get the front sight on. In both cases, the work could have been better, but the front sight is now on the shotgun.
