Adding Weight to a Boyd's Laminate Stock

Good Morning,

Im looking to add weight to the forend of a Boyd's pro varmint stock for my CZ455 (22lr). Its set up for rimfire PRS, but fairly rear-heavy (despite the Lilja straight tube on the front). I want to add weight to the forend in order to balance the rifle for barricades and other obstacles.

I tried stick-on wheel weights in the forend channel, but will need more than can fit in that space. 2nd thought was to do something with melting lead to the rough dimensions, and securing in the barrel channel. 3rd though was to find some weights somewhere and attach to the exterior of the stock.

Any thoughts on how to achieve a better balance? I don't have an issue with it being heavier for a match rifle.

Depending on the size of the voids, you can place lead pellet gun projectiles neatly into the channels and seal them in with epoxy. I did that years back with a RamLine stock for my .303 and it worked like a charm.

This but lead shot for shot shells works better. Mix them right in with the epoxy and just before the mix sets, oil the tip of a rubber glove and shape it to the contour of the stock channel. Lead BBs work as well.

DAMN good idea! At the time I used the lead pellets (in my own defense) I had no access to lead shot. Lee Valley Tool Co. used to sell a 2 part clear acrylic mix, the same stuff used to embed coins and such, and I poured that over the pellets. That sure did the job, but I like your work-around too.

It's getting tough to find LEAD BBs these days. They're made out of other things. Luckily I had several bottles I purchased when I picked up one of those neat C02 powered P08s from CanadaAmmo.
