Adequate rifle for Service Rifle shoots?

Looking back, if I was getting into service rifle for the first time as a civilian I would.

Buy a good reasonably priced 20" AR (Stag, RRA) for $1500+/- then I would get a Falcon Menace 1.5-5 (there are better optics but the price point can't be beat). There you go a competitive rig that will last most shooters well over a decade without problems for 2K. As well if you get bored you can sell it off for almost what you paid. Then if you want to avoid wind and play the short game you can buy a short barreled upper and run the same lower because the AR is the Mr potato head of rifles.

My two cents

I use a M305 (Sheila) for the SR matches. That her there....

I just love here.....:D

Yep! ammo is costing more and more these days, must learn to reload.....;)

What the hell kinda SR match is that with a hard surface like that!!!! LOL :D

Never done SR where there wasn't GRASS and wind and rain on me..........

Or is that because of some stupid QC rule that you can't do that???

alexD92 next time U R down in Connaught for the SR matches, you got to bring your M14S/M305 for the competition, Tons45-II and me would enjoy your company....:D

Gotcha, I'm still debating whether I should use a scope or iron sights. One has the norc sights and the other is scoped with a 10-40x NCstar. :p Maybe I should buy TWO falcon scopes instead. :p

All kinds of great advice here. Lots of experience and wisdom! Don't buy a single M14...

Instead buy TWO of them!

Thats done, but I have to convince my dad not to sell the other one...

I think it's going to be seriously lacking at the 400 and 500 yards distances. You might want to think about a longer barrel...

This has not been my experience, while I did not win any trophies I have broken 500 with a 14.5" parts gun with a carry handle mounted Colt 3x scope using Win 55 grain White Box and a colour blind spotter at Vokes. I will be shooting the BCRA with a Colt or STAG 14.5" M4 in 2010 again and while I may not do as well as I have with my 20" gun I think it will still be competitive. There have been plenty of matches won with 16.1" guns and with hand loads I imagine a Norc will do well with the right hitter and load to match those velocities. Like Longshot said...when you get better you can always have Rick replace the barrel with one of his match units...

This is a pretty theoretical question, but IF the Norc T97s are ever released, how suitable would they be for Service rifle?[/QUOT

They'd be fine man...service rifle has more to do with position shooting than the actual gun involved...I suspect the top guys would do just as well regardless of the tools involved...
