It seems that almost every variable power "varmint" type scope on the market comes with an adjustable objective. Was wondering what other varmint hunters out there thought of them? I'm seeing them pop up on big game scopes as well, so big game hunters please jump in as well! Do you like them or hate 'em? Reasons why or why not? I'm still kinda' on the fence with mine.

I don't really think it's a necessary feature on a hunting rig as paralax is only an issue under 100m with most scopes. Even then it's so miniscule that you wouldn't miss your shot on a squirrel.
It's a nice feature for shooting .22LR benchrest, but not something I would look for in a hunting scope. I have a couple that have AO and they are set at infinity all the time.......

I had an A/O scope on my .30-06, not good for hunting as you usually don't have time to set for range. Any decent scope has near zero parallex from about 60 yds out no prob for game or normal targeting.

Here are some facts... not speculaton
An ajustable objective lens allows you to focus at distances over 100 yards and adjust for a condition called Parallax. The scopes with adjustable objective lenses have markings that allow you to adjust the focus for specific ranges, which in turn allows you to find the range you are shooting at easily  .
Parallax occurs when viewing distant targets, and the reticle appears to shift or move. This occurs when the image in the scope is in one focal plane, and the reticle is in another. Most scopes without adjustable objectives are factory set to compensate for parallax and focus at an optimum distance of 100 or 150 yards. Parallax is usually only an issue at magnification over 10 power. When looking at a scope that will be used for distant targets in higher power, an adjustable objective is a good choice. :!:
