Do they make an adjustable rear sight for the SKS? My front sight is so far over on one side to make it hit the center of the target that the sight picture is stupid with the front sight hood. I kind of have to ignore the hood and it basically is annoying because it is blocking out 1/2 of my sight picture.

Hi Hunter, this post will probably be moved to the Milsurp section, but you might want to try techsites. They have a pretty decent AR style rear aperture sight for the SKS that's solid, adjustable, and brings the sight closer to the eye than the original.

Take a Look

As mentioned, mojo sights or tech sights are both pretty cool lookin' and will be a definite improvement over the OEM sights. However, before you do that, the problem may be simpler than you think. Does the front sight post look reasonably centered in the hood, or is it very far over to one side? If it looks centered, I'd say your barrel is bent  Try looking along the barrel when the rifle is disassembled (you'll need to sight along the barrel from the muzzle end to detect a bend). If it's not that, then maybe try a front sight adjustment tool? Let us know how it goes...

have a look at your barrel to see if its indexed properly.is your front site level with your receiver?if its not ,this will cause the front site to be over to one side.sometimes way over.if its a threaded barrel, then the barrel has to be turned to ensure the receiver and front site are on the same plane

My barrel isn't bent and I have adjusted the front sight over to the right so it will shoot to point of aim, it is just the hood that is in the way and obscuring my sight picture slightly. Those sights look all right, can't see them staying zero after every cleaning. I found what I was looking for at http://www.surplusrifle.com/sks/adjustrearsights/hs.asp but at the bottom they state that nurmich has them now and going there they say they are out of stock. What I need to find is a supplier in Canada.

For a temporary measure I shoulf be able to open up the rear notch a bit so that I can move the front sight back closer to the center of the front sight hood. I need the bullets impact to move more to the left so I think I need to file some metal off of the left side of the rear notch, is that correct?

Moving the rear sight notch to the left will move point of impact to the left.
Williams makes aperature sights for the SKS that replaces the rear sight with an adjustable peep.

Williams might also make an open rear sight for the SKS but I think the round front hoods are just begging for an aperature sight of some sort.
The tech model looks good because it's closer to the eye then the Williams.

Thanks Can-Down, I am going to remove some metal from the left side and that will move the point of impact of the bullet to the left, then I can move the front sight back to the middle to have a better sight picture. This will do until I can get a peep or another adjustable rear sight.

I went to the range last night and my little trick of removing some metal from the left side worked great. Not only did I get a better sight picture but I could move the front sight to the left and it is almost in the middle of the sight hood now with no problems at all. With cheap ammo I can at least hit the middle of the target at 100 yards now.

ah gunsmithing with a dremmel. :)

I was going to sugest exactly this fix, good to see it working.

The rear sites on the SKS that I have are crude things that a good dremmeling would be an improvement.
