Probably a noob question, but it’s on an expensive scope so I don't want to damage anything.

While waiting for my PAL I’ve been trying to get some expenses out of the way which I can lawfully make in the interim. I got a NightForce NX8 4-32x50mm MIL-C (on sale), and also the V171 sunshade (from a different supplier).

It was easy to unscrew the flip-cover and install the sunshade, but when I try to reinstall the flip-cover, the “hinge” is at the 7 o’clock position instead of the 12 o’clock position. It is far too loose if I unscrew it to be at the 12 o’clock position, so I’m sure there’s a proper way to do this. I seem to recall seeing something about a threaded section and then something which snaps in (but can’t recall if that “snap” is for the ocular side), and don’t want to break to flip-cover by trying to force it. There weren’t instructions included, but I’m sure it is an easy fix.

The Tenebraex objective (front) lens cover is in 2 parts. The screw on inner part and the snap on outer part with the flip cover. The screw on piece has ridges all around the edge that grip the inside of the flip cover. You can pull off the flip cover, and refasten (snap back on) at the orientation you want. Its a tight fit. It is easiest done with the cover screwed on tight to the scope. When you start to pull the flip cover off, it looks like the rim is bending and might break....but it won't break. It bends and then pops off, and springs back to its normal shape.
