Pat Harrison is conducting an advanced IPSC course at the Sharon Gun Club on Firday and Saturday this week. I pre-registered but I'm unable to attend due to illness. Dom is unprepared to refund my course fees. If anyone is interested in taking my place (and paying me the course fee) please let me know. Please contact me by email. wmundy@rogers.com

I know the feeling, wy wife was rushed to the hospital, I sent pat an e-mail and never recieved a reply.
Guess he pocketed the $400.00 - Lost at leat two customers going forward.

Lol...I haven't pocketed anything yet. This was a combined effort between myself and the club, the club took care of collecting the money for me and dealing with some of the costs of putting this on. As soon as the costs are sorted out, so will everything else.
For the record, you both cancelled from a prepaid, prebooked course at three days and one day prior to the course and we were unable to fill your spots at the last minute. I have been discussing with Dom how we were going to handle last minute refunds.

I'm interested in how the club resolves this...

While this course has nothing to do with IPSC Ontario...it's certainly reflective of the members belief that they can cancel at the last minute with no repercussion. It's becoming a big problem at matches...and apperantly training courses as well. IMO (which carries to weight here) there are no refunds owed.

What ever happened to living up to your commitments?

Pat and Wayne...very sorry to hear about your personal circumstances...

I think, best way is pre-paid, however we can not control certain situations, like sickness and other. I took Eric G. course, put by Alex, and I liked the way he has organized it. Pay 50% to guarantee yourself a spot, and 50% on the starting day.
First 50% is gone if you pull out early, however if someone else can fill your spot you get the money back.

Big, outdoor level II matches and up should be prepaid as well. IPSC Ontario should handle (transfers) that. If anyone pulls out before the match gets refund only if there is someone who can take his spot. This way, those who build a nice stages which required time (EESA) get the money and shooters become more accountable as well.

I disagree...

We're a board not a bank. If the clubs want to require pre payment for their matches...it's their decision. The IPSC-Matches site allows for "prepayment". It's still up to the club to collect the money (most use EMT) and they send you a PIN which allows you to book a slot.

Works like a charm...and no need for the Board to stick their nose in

I understand Quigley, however IPSC ON collects money from every shooter shooting L II and up, so to coordinate all in one, it will be easier for all if one body collects the money. Either way, this is what I think, and my believe is bigger outdoor matches should be pre-paid.

Cheers

No we don't...the club collects it and sends it to IPSC ONtario (one transaction). Big difference.

I agree about prepaying

I am looking to purchase a share at Sharon and I am finding it extremely difficult to find someone willing to sell I have been told that some members hold multiple shares, it sounds like you are a member of the club if you know anyone willing to sell I would appreciate the help. Thank you

If your looking for a share in the club there an area where you can post that you are looking i dont think this is the place for that

It looks like while "prepayment" feature of IPSC-Matches site is quite functional, it's still too much hassle for clubs to use it for smaller matches (I only seen it used few times for big L3).
I think it might be beneficial to all parties if IPSC Ontario could organize some kind of centralized payment processing system that would be easier for clubs to use and could have advanced features like credit card payments, etc.

Are you volunteering to take this project on?

This is what I mean. :agree:
It will be simple and fast. Clubs and IPSC ON can receive money and people will think twice before throwing their name to the hat.

...but I guess someone has to set it up

We haven't had a single club approach us and ask us to start managing their match fees...nor do we want to start.

If I ran a shooting club...and the Board of Directors of some shooting organization "informed" me that they would now be handling the finances for my matches...I'll let you guess what I'd tell them to do...

IPSC Matches.net and EMT is about as simple as it gets...

I never organized any matches myself, so I only look at this from competitor point of view: most of us now adopted practice "sign up first and then decide", which makes all matches to fill up as soon as they are opened for sign-up.
So I don't know if match organizers have any interest in using prepayment.
But in any case using this system should not be obligatory.

Are you volunteering to take this project on?
I can put my thoughts about this in some simple document so that interest can be gauged. I might not have skills required for this but I have friends I can ask for help.

And apologies to OP for hijacking this thread.

P.S.
I don't have any Sharon shares either :)

We require prepayment out here for all Level II's and higher. No refunds. Prepayment prior to a certain date is cheaper than closer to the match. No one here uses EMTs yet. All by cheque. And its usually cashed prior to the match.
Regardless prepayment is the only thing that makes sense.

Bullseye...it's way too easy to sign up now. Most clubs have figured out that opening the match up months in advance is not a good idea...and that has helped...but it's small consilation for the MD's who end up woth emply slots the night before the match (not to mention the people that wanted to shoot but couldn't get a slot)

EESA has used the prepaymet funtion (with EMT) a few times now. I'd be interetsed in knowing how it worked out overall...

Cheers

Perhaps if we treat it like a Blockbuster video rental: For example, if you were to sign up for a match and end up as a no-show with no appropriate notice (24 hours?), you would be expected to pay the outstanding match fee the next time you come out for a match at that club...or not be permitted to shoot. Do that enough times and it can get quite expensive.

I could be wrong but I would expect that enforcing mandatory pre-payment would result in lower overall match attendance.
