Not allowing somone to shoot is an issue (santioned matches are open to all current members by International rules) Requireing prepayment, preferably accross the board...but could also be one a case by case basis for the worst offenders...would be fine.

I don't think prepayment would scare off too many people once they get accustomed to doing it. Regardless...something has to be done to prevent these last minute cancellations.

I may try pre-payment at a match next year.

When fully 1/4 of the people drop out within the last couple of days, including some RO's, it can be frustrating.
 
Commitment.. if you are going to say that you are going to do something, then you have an obligation to do it.. if you can't, then it's your responsibility to find a replacement.. you can't find one.. then you loose your $$ or you get a reputation for being "one of those" people.. either way you loose out..

Sucks.. but that's life.. now go shoot..
 
In my opinion once the classification system is revised/fixed, most level 2 would be worth attending, but as they stand now there just exspensive level 1 hours from home. So what l think happens in some cases is people look to see how many GM/M are signup and go from there. And yes before someone tells me l had my chance to speakup about the current system,,,

The BB is an official course put on by ipsc ontario and is safety related..

the "Advanced course" is not official(Nothing to do with IPSC Ontario), and deals with how to "shoot better".. the name of the course is purely up to whoever is putting it on.

Thanks for the clarification. I keep hoping to hear about a good 3 gun IPSC course, so I had to ask.

Same in Alberta. Payment by cheque to a post office box or EMT, all payments for Level II's come to one person (me). De-registration from a match required the Monday prior to the match by 7:00 pm (so effectively 4.5 days notice since matches are the Saturday/Sunday). If a person doesn't de-register in time they lose their match fees. Don't pay and show up then they can't shoot until they pay the late fee. Don't pay and don't show up then they still have to pay the late fee before they can shoot another match. All registrations handled by an online system developed by an IPSC Alberta member.

All that being said, the big difference is in Alberta we have ~330 active members to whatever it is in Ontario (triple that?) and only shoot at 8 different ranges in the province (Fort Mac, Spruce Grove, Phoenix Indoor, Olds, TSE, Strathmore, Brooks, Lethbridge). We aren't so big that it isn't manageable.
 
I don't understand how prepayment could be an issue. In any other sport you have to prepay to get a spot in a match. We have to do it for the Nationals and for the Worlds, why wouldn't you ask the same for level II's or even I's if you think you need to. To make it simple for the MD if they don't want to handle the money, appoint someone else who's helping with the match to handle it. Cam and I split responsibility for our match and it worked out fine.
As for refunds, given a weeks notice with a legit reason like a broken foot or whatever, fine. But something like, I'm tired or whatever, no way. Don't sign up if you agent sure you can make it, simple. Letting people pay day of is a sure fire way to get screwed.
