Advantages Of Using A Revoler Over A Semi Automatic.

Because revolvers are available in big bores ( 44mag, 45lc, 454 Casull and bigger...apparently there are 45-70 revolvers, though I have never seen one) they are better for bear defence.

With a couple of speedloaders and a good reloading drill practised a few times you can almost match or even surpass the reloading speed of a semi auto with mags.

I beg do differ on that, especially under stress. A couple of 15 rd mags and a good reloading drill practised a few times will always beat a wheelgun with speedloaders.

Use for hunting/defense against animals is where revolvers really shine, IMHO, because there are big magnum designs for just that. Bullseye shooting is the other big one - good revolver SA triggers and lack of slide movement make that easier.

There are people who can fire revolvers very quickly, and reload them very quickly. But in some ways that makes them an experts tool. For the rest of us, autos are probably faster to use and reload.

A handgun should not be ones primary means for self defense. Long guns are the order of the day, handguns are convenient solutions(band-aids) to being unarmed.

RevolverRodger-"Wheelguns have more class"

Not unlike most "advantages" of a revolver this comment is purely personal(biased) opinion rather than fact. More importantly, is has nothing to do with performance.

Get out and try both types. I shoot better with automatics, some of my friends prefer revolvers. Quality guns of both types can be very reliable, of course semi's are more sensitive to ammo choices and revolvers are more likely to become a fancy club if your playin' in the mud!

I wouldn't say autos are sensitive to ammo types. Quality autos will digest anything you can feed them. The exception is wadcutters and bird shot. Then again, there's really no need for either.
