Advice and experiences with AICS drop in stocks

Hi everyone, so, last summer I bought a Remington 700 VSSF rifle, which I absolutely love. However, I am tired of the stock due to certain aesthetic and ergonomic functions of the stick. After doing significant research and looking at aesthetics and the desired ergonomics I have decided on the Accuracy international Chassis system with the adjustable check piece, length of pull and folding stock (the latter cause its cool). But the one thing I have been brooding about is that I don’t know anyone who owns one, so I don’t have any real user feedback. What I would like is to hear from people who have shot, owned, or still own this set up. I’d like to hear all sides of your experiences with this gun. Now I know a lot of you precision shooters out there will say I should go with a Mac stock, HS Precision, or a Manners Tactical, which in my humble opinion all look fantastic; the Manners Tactical MCS GAT, I will admit had my eye for a while, and from what I’ve read there all great. However there is something that lures me to the AICS. So it is with this post I would like to hear everyone’s advice and insight into this particular stock.

They are awesome if your a thumbhole guy! Pricy as far as stocks go but very nice. I would suggest trying one out before you buy one though, thumbholes aren't for everyone. The adjustable cheekpiece is great, Length of pull is handy if you know how to adjust it properly to your length of pull, the foldiing option I'm told is very handy for cleaning purposes, and last but not least the detachable mag system is great.

I recommend bedding the action. Some say you don't need it but I saw an improvement in consistent accuracy with mine.

Now for the negatives. Wicked expensive, heavy, the forend is not very ergonomic.

Like I said try one out before you buy, you might find it just isn't for you.

I have owned an AICS for 8 years now and love it.

If you have large hands, the thumbhole/grip area may be a tight fit.

They say it is drop in and no bedding is required, but I would skim bed it anyways.

The mag system is great and I have not had a Mag related feed issue.However extra/spare mags are pricey.............

I tend to like the square fore end as I find it sits steadier on my ruck or front rest when shooting.

I use the AI Bipod as well and it simply plugs into the front of the stock.

As for price, the price isn't bad when you figure it is already set up for a Detachable Mag (you get one 5 round mag with the stock)...................a McMillan stock and say the V-Bull Mag conversion (Also factor in stock inletting for the conversion) will run you probably more then the AICS...............(Depending on which version you get..............I run the 1.0 no cheekrest/non-folder.).

Thanks for the info guys, really appreciat it. Now the only trick is to find one in the edmonton area. I shoot at Genesee so if anyone is out there on a regular basis maybe i could meet you out there and give the AI a go I'll bring ammo as I will be practicing with my rifle. However i doubt it will be anytime soon, as I'm still batteling with school trying to make it through this last month and a bit of uni before the summer.
 
Hello Number Six, I am in Edmonton Area, and I do shoot at Genesee, maybe next sunday, I will be out there, and if you there, I will let you try out the stock and you be the judge, this is my Second AICS Stage 1.5, and I am very happy, I try everything from HS to Mcmillan, but I find that the AICS fit very well...
 
I just recently bought one and it is hands down my favorite stock. I have owned McMillan and HS, but this is bar none the best I have had. I have the 2.0 (folder OD) and I just love it, the mags are rock solid.

These stocks either you love them or hate them so my advice is to make sure you handle 1 before you buy 1.
I have built several rifles on AICS chassis, the idea is sound, the feel is unique.
They are well made, and for the $$ should be. The mags work well, but the same mags can be used in other stocks with VBull bottom metal.
I personally do not like the way they fit or feel compared to my A5s, but we are all built differently.
They do require skim bedding to get the most from them accuracy wise, and can be difficult to get paint to stick to, but are certainly structural.
Hopefully you are right handed as I do not believe they make anything but the right hand stock for the 700s.

I couldn't agree more with what you said. I fired an Accuracy International, Arctic Warfare extensively, not a Remington action with a AICS chassis and although a very durable system the thumbhole stock did not agree with me. The McMillan A-5 stock is by far the most comfortable stock I have used and as a result the best results I have achieved was from a rifle with an A-5.

+1 on what both EC and Rick said. This is the first one I have ever owned and I love it. I have had a McMillan A1 and A3 and and HS LTR and several HS PSS, this is bar none my favorite to shoot.

I've had an A-2, an AICS and a McHale for a while. I had chosen the AICS for my 308 based solely on the "cool" factor and while it was a great stock, I think the A-2 that I had on a 7mmMag was much more comfortable....had a more natural fit. If I was to purchase a new tactical stock...I think I'd go with a newer generation A-5.
