Guys,
Planning on taking a course in the States next year. Was told I can't use my prohib G19 as once the gun is out of country, it can't be "imported" back in. I don't want to rebarrel and reclass the gun as of yet so a longer barrel is out of the question.
I have a G22. Toyed with shooting .40 for the course but would prefer to use 9mm.
Question is:
For those of you who have swapped out your .40 G22s to the 9mm, do you just have to change the barrel? Is the Lone Wolf one any good?
I will buy some G17 full cap mags when I'm down there so mags are not a problem. Do I have to change the guide rod/spring and the extractor also? I need max reliability here so if the barrel alone won't do and I need to go overboard buying parts for a 2 day course, I may just shoot it as a .40.
Thanks for any help!

I don't know if this will help or not, but I think a special permit from Foreign Affairs is needed to bring back a grandfathered prohibited handgun. Maybe this doesn't apply to civilians, don't know.

Nothing wrong with a Lone Wolf 40-9 barrel. I have 2 of them. You can use the .40 mags but I went with the Glock G17 mags. Mine's a Gen 4 and I went with a G17 RSA also. But, some guys says that it runs fine with the G22 RSA using the conversion barrel.

For years I have simply swapped out the barrel and mags to G17. I have not used a conversion barrel and it is not necessary on Gen1-3. Cant speak for Gen4 but with the 2pc spring assembly I can see also being changed out. I am not alone on this one. This has been in practice for many years and was even discussed on here some time ago.

Not sure how that would work? The G17 barrel has a smaller outside diameter than the G22. Therefore the barrel will not lock up in the slide at the barrel end of the gun. This is the reason why they make the 40-9 conversion barrels. This would apply to all Gens.

It works just fine. Even tho the 9mm barrel is slightly smaller than the 40, the barrel is not locked up at the front but is absolutely secure when in battery. The 20thou difference does not affect it. U can use the 9 in the 40 but not the reverse as the thicker 40 barrel wont fit thru the smaller 9mm hole. Have a look at the video for more info. As Cope mentions, accuracy MAY be compromised but if not in scored competition, it no big deal.

Thanks ChiliDawg!
This is a great find! I will try this route right now!
I really don't want to go the Lone Wolf route as I don't need another 9mm. My Glock is a Gen 3 btw.

I have a Glock 22 with Lone Wolf bbls for 40-9 and also the LW 40 bbl so I can shoot lead. If using white box 9mm the brass can wind up landing on your head. I bought a 9mm magazine for the gun as well. Don't shoot the bun much but there it is!

I've initiated the process with the Dept. of Foreign Affairs. Let's see what happens! I would much rather use my G19 as its the gun I train with the most. The G22 will do in a pinch!
Have any of you needed to switch out the extractor also? So with the Gen 3s, you don't have to worry about the recoil spring? Only the Gen 4s?

Let me know what happens. I may want to take some prohibs to the U.S. One day.

Nope..Only changes were the barrel and mag. Runs like a top :)
Similar success on other like models as well, and I am sure I'm not alone.
Cheers

Ok, talked to Dept. of Foreign Affairs. The guy in the section I talked to was extremely knowledgeable about guns. We had a nice conversation about milsurps specifically 1903s amd M1 carbines! I commented that it was nice to see there are gun owners working in the gov't. He laughed and said there were more than he could count!
Anyways, the process goes:
1. Call 1(343)203-4321. This number leads directly to the dept that deals with gun export/import.
2. They will send you a link via email to a form that must be filled out and returned.
3. The form will require you prove ownership of prohib being exported i.e. RPAL with 12(x) shown, Reg Cert. for said prohib. And also a letter from the Gun Club where you are going to shoot at saying you have been authorized to shoot there and allowed by their State law to bring said prohib into their State. In other words saying the gun you want to bring is legal to be imported and used in that State.
The fellow said the process takes around 2-3 weeks to get the letter or permit or whatever it is from them.
So it looks like my G19 can get a plane ticket afterall!
Thanks ChiliDawg for pointing this out! Saves me a few bucks! More ammo!!!
