Advice for a Standard Division gun

I tought that for STD, if you can't afford the STI/SVI, the next best would be a Para Ord all dress with magwell/FO sight, etc.
Nope. For that price range, you can get an Tanfoglio LC with the same options - plus full length dust cover & bull barrel.

For the rest of the thread; Remember that I am the sole importer for both STI and Tanfoglio, so I win whichever one you choose, but since a lot of good things have been said about the Tanfoglio LC, I should comment on the STI Edge for balance.

Thanks to the US Dollar, the STI Edge isn't a lot more than the Tanfoglio Lim Custom. You will find it tighter and it balances differently with a polymer grip - putting the weigh forward for recoil. The Recoilmaster works well. 2/3 of USPSA Nationals Limited (Standard) Competitors choose them. since it's that 1911 design deep down, your options and choices for play are endless. I could shoot either; and I choose STI for standard.

Ah, very true, but the Tanfos also have the added bonus of being able to shoot the cheap plated bullets Sean. The sweet, delicious Ch-e-e-a-a-p b-o-o-o-o-l-l-e-e-ts....! They are the fountain of goodness.

Ahem....I'm all right now.

I have no issues shooting the cheap bullets with my Edge and a custom STI standard gun.
It's hit and miss though. Some guns will handle them and some won't. My STI's would shoot jacketed or lead bullets into one hole, but the plated stuff was minute-of-wash tub at best. The sharp rifling would cut the plating and then the plating would "sabot" off as the bullet left the muzzle, often leaving a second jagged hole in the target.

It may also depend on which cheap plated bullets you are referring too as well. Some are better than others. And more expensive.
