Advice for dirty ammo...

So, I've got a box of 500 .22s that have been dropped in the mud/clay...
...if you are wondering... yup, it was me...:p
Picked them back up with mud caked on them... back in the box.
Dry at home now... most of the mud comes off but some is still stuck in the rings of the bullets etc...
I'm thinking of using some water to wash them (not sure if that's ok or not) and possible lubing them with some G96...

What would you do?

If I can get them all clean would they still be good to use in a semi auto or my revolvers?

Any advice or help is appreciated.

Well if you get water or oil in the powder charge you can have either a dud or a squib. The bullets would have been waxed if not copper plated, which would be mostly washed off which may cause excessive leading. I wouldnt do it simply for the chance something bad could happen but its your ammo and gun.
 
Just to be clear
500 loose in the mud ??

22 rim fire are lubed with wax-- the wax will pick up dirt will not wash off with water

If I had a old shot out 22 bolt action with pitted bore shoot away

If you have a nice shooter that does nice groups no (At least not me)
 
Yup, 500 loose in the mud...
Only a $20 box, so not that big a deal...
guess I'll save them for something... just not something good.
 
22 rim in my experience are like glass light bulbs

Bang them around too much and they don't work or they go pop on you

Clean with a cloth or a old tooth bush to brush away the dirt
 
wipe them down with a cloth no need for water

ive done worse ive picked up "dud's" at the range most where not dud's but they had no priming mix in the space the pin hit some of the rounds even had the bullets bent up a bit(like it jamed on the chamber mouth of a semi auto) i fired them in my cooey model 60 single shot style

if you reload shotshell you could use just the bullet as buckshot :p
 
But them in a cloth bag and put them in the vehicle you drive around the most.
The constant movement and bouncing will remove all the crap.
