Advice for IPSC Production Divison

I am asking for some advice before I start ordering.

I have a S&W MP9 and am thinking about ordering a Comp-Tac International holster. I was thinking about ordering two of their magazine pouches as well but they seem very big. The mags are spread very far apart. Would two of these pouches on my belt be too bulky for Production Division? What pouches would be better? Maybe Blade-Tec?

I am also looking at reloaded ammo. Would RN 124gr or RN 147gr be better?

Just sell it and order a cz shadow....

You'll want your mags close to each other if your going to fit 5comfortably on your waist that dont go past your hip bone.

With your plastic door stop (eer pistol!! :) i would suggest 147s with a fast powder for less recoil.

The snap/recoil and short sight radius is going to be your enemy. So if you dont just order a shadow, load 147 with titegroup!

Yes the Comp-tac will work fine, but you will need more than two pouches. Minimum I'd suggest is 4. Bladetech will work fine or CR Speed. Make sure they have some adjustment.
 
M&P 9 will work very well.

Like the looks of the Comp-Tac holster, but I have not used one.

4 pouches minimum, 5 better, 5 + magnet even better. How many magazines do you have? Never enough is the answer.

If buying commercial reloaded ammo, I suggest to get a small order of each and shoot them. Then pick the cartridges that work best for you. My guess is that you will find the 115gn acceptable and often more readily available.

IMO the Belt Feed Magazine Pouch that holds 4 mags is not the best choice. Their 2 mag paddle type is better, but may not be ideal. Try to find the single pouches with adjustable retaining tension and the ability to change the angle.

You can get them in Canada as well. I think DoubleTap may have some. I had both Blade Tec and Uncle Mikes, but found them too bulky and not able to be angled.

Get a holster that is dropped and offset. It allows you to get an easier grip when drawing.

I started with M&P . Shoot lots of Matches with it but notice not much improvement . Switch to CZ shadow .. Big difference on first match . If u haven't bought extra mags & holster yet . I would suggest switch the gun .

For commercially reloaded ammo, Custom Reloading Services is the best, especially if you can go pick it up from Brad/John directly and save on the shipping costs. Haven't bought reloads from him in a while as I've started reloading, but his price was usually about 75% of commercial ammo. It's excellent quality ammo. I've used it as a benchmark when chrono'ing my own reloads. His stuff is much more consistent velocity than factory rounds, and sadly still better than my own reloads lol.

I started off shooting 124gr, but switched to 147gr because I felt the recoil was softer. Best thing to do is get a couple boxes of each and see what performs well in your MP9.
 
Shadow... It's the only way to be sure.Better now, before you hit that non- shadow wall. Less recoil, balanced and more options for grips and parts. Don't get married.

Both guns have won plenty of matches. And both guns have come in last place plenty of times too.

And I could also say the same about Glock, Beretta, and almost any other brand of pistol.

Shoot the gun you enjoy shooting.

Practice (with proper technique) is going to make a lot more of a difference than any hand gun choice at this time. Join an IPSC group at your local range and start going to practices. You will meet a lot of nice folks who are very helpful. If you hooked by the IPSC bug, it's not going to be your last handgun purchase .....

And you can also think of starting IPSC in the Revolver division or Classic divisions too. I did one club match with a revolver and kind of liking them now too. And I just ordered a 1911 in 9mm because I'm already setup to load 9mm. Too many divisions to play in, not enough time to practice lol :)

Shoot the guns you like to shoot. We have revolver and Classic divisions too so you are all set which ever way you go.
