Hi guys I'd like some advice for which direction I should go. I need a replacement stock for my Sako A5 and they are like hens teeth to find one. I've read online about guys using a Howa/Vanguard stocks with minor modifications. I did a dry run using the stock from my vanguard and it seems all I need to do is hog out about 3/8 on the tang and it will fit. I would like to go the Bell and Carlson route or a Boyd's laminate. One more distant option is finding a L61r stock, supposedly the howa/vanguard drop right in.
So my question is how much meat is in the tang area of the B and C stocks? I'm worried that if I remove 3/8 and bit from the tang that ill either run into the foam core or it will be so thin that ill develop cracks. If I go with a Boyds laminate stock I wouldn't have this issue but I do like the B and C.
Thanks
