one note of caution, Mossberg 500 and Rem 870's can be had new---350-400.00 with chokesets.. Bps--600.00 & up new. Ithacas were good product, not sure if they are in or out of business again. Win pumps are functional, and cheap. Definitely an 870 is a better built gun than a 500 mossberg, neither are as good as the BPS or the Benelli Nova, which is about the same money as a BPS. If you can afford it it, get a 3-1/2 for geese. They hold resale a bit better than a 3", and 2-3/4 are nearly obsolete other than grouse and pheasant hunting, Ok for a slug gun too. The 3-1/2 will give you maximum versatility though.
