Advice needed-loading for 9mm P08 Luger

round nose or trunc. cone bullets, 115-124gn depending on preference of your pistol. They do like stiff loads, but no sense beating on a 100 year old gun, start light and load up a few tenths at a time till you find a spot she likes. Shoot cast, as that was the original standard loading for the gun, and again, a little less wear on an old girl.

I had the same question as I have the same Luger rebarelled to 6". I tried CCI Blazer and American Eagle 9mm 124gr in this gun, another older 6" rebarrelled Luger and a Finish 5". None of them would cycle.

Today I finally got around to loading some 124gn AIM Copper plated bullets. I worked up a load for my Browning Hi Power using Winchester 231 and Winchester primers. 4.2 gn of W231 gave me an average 1040 fps with a cartridge OAL of 1.142".

I tried these in the 1916 DWM Luger and they shot comfortably and cycled perfectly. I only had time for a few shots so I could not assess accuracy.

I plan to use 124 gn Lead cast bullets once I get my casting set up going.

Took my P08 to the range today. First I tried S+B 115gr FMJ; cycled like crap, no surprise there. Then I tried my handloads with 125gn Hornady HAP Holopoints. Started with 5.8 gr of Accurate#5 and performance was poor. Long story short; my P08 didn't cycle well until I worked up to my 6.1gn loads, found the sweet spot! Hopefully, I will start casting my own this year.
