Advice needed - m14 ebr build

Over 100 views and not 1 response... light bulb went off and told me i'm doing it wrong....

Please feel free to discuss or advise on any of the following points:

1). Preferred receiver for an m14 ebr build? LRB?

2). Anyone see a problem with having a company like Smith Enterprise take the receiver, bolt and trigger group, build an EBR RINM-NM and then import the rifle up here? Sage stock, magpul prs2... m14sa reciever...

3). Final question: m25 receivers... with DOS allow export? Are they non-restricted here?

Hopefully this will get a reply or two, as my last 'book' i wrote didn't =)

My M14 EBR-RINM-SEI is built on a Poly Tech receiver with a Poly Tech trigger group and a TRW bolt.
SEI has also built outstanding EBRs for me on Norinco receivers.

Thanks for the post... you make an interesting point about the poly and norinco... is the difference between cast and forge just sales pitch?
 
Forged will last longer... but without trying really hard, you still won't ever shoot out a cast receiver.

There's a current thread on the MBR section about people having problems inporting LRB receivers as they're marked 7.62 nato... so that may be a no-go

Chinese receivers are great. You can pick one up for cheap, collect whatever GI parts you want, buy a sage stock and have one of the few completent m14 smiths in canada build one up for you. Probably easier (and cheaper) than dealing with SEI and DOS.

I can get whatever receiver I want down here and prefer ChiCom receivers.
I may build one last M14 when SEI releases their barstock receiver though.

It's my understanding that Chinese receivers are closer to USGI dimensions than LRB receivers.

FWIW, my current M1A project is built on an M14S 2007 receiver. I am using TRW USGI parts. It is scoped with a Leupold Mark 4 3.5-10x40 illum mounted on an ARMS-18, and has more than a few Smith Enterprise parts.

My next addition is to have a Krieger barrel installed by Jeff Smith out of Petawawa.


I have shot more than a few Springfield Armory rifles, and have quite enjoyed them too.
 
Good info here. I agree, the forged chinese receivers are excellent choices for builds and so far have not run into any compatability issues with ebr stocks, usgi parts ect.
H20 man is our in house Sage expert, being blessed living south of the 49.

heh heh... it's just that little set screw that still drives me :eek: crazy! I've had success doing several jobs (Krieger, Douglas) using Norc receivers. Actually they are kinda fun because they are to spec unlike the Winchester f:P: M1 Garands I've worked with many years ago.

Here I was thinking... wow, I always wanted a Winnie M1 Garand. Don't I find a (before the Iraq invasion of 2003 and 9/11/2001 events) a Douglas NM Hvy match barrel for the M1? I installed it and while indexing it, I almost killed myself and my bench vise. The M1 Winchesters were up to drawing revision # 2 by the end of WWII, while Springfield Armory was up to drawing revision 17 or higher! f:P: What a PITA!

The barrel job was completed but not without a lot of profanity from the basement workshop!
