Fellow Hunters out there, I need some advice.... I have a Savage Model 10 Predator in .223 (winter Realtree camo) and a Bushnell Elite 6500 2.5-16x42 Scope (30mm Tube). I want to buy a Weaver Extended 20 MOA picatinny rail and Weaver 30mm Six Hole Tactical rings. What ring height would I need? Low or Medium? I want to get the Bell close to the barrel but still allow a lens cap (see comment below about the need of walking about and taking care of business lol).

I haven't bought the rail and rings yet... I am not hooked on Weaver however they are good quality and price. I am open to other suggestions though.

I plan to use this gun for both long and close range shooting on my farm to "take care of business" lol. I have plenty of Bench rest rifle set ups for reaching out and touching someone (I own a nice custom Hall Mfg. 6mm PPC BR setup) - I don't need to go crazy on this set up but I want good accuracy. I am not cheap however I don't want to mortgage the farm!

Any and all help is appreciated.

6 hole rings on a 223? Rather excessive. On my 3.5-10x40mm Mark 4 I used TPS Mediums on both my M70 and my SAN. I would assume that the Weaver mediums would work fine.

For your setup I would look at Talley Lightweights. I believe they come in 30mm and allow you to access the feeding path easier than with a rail. Plus for a walking rifle the weight savings is a nice bonus.
