I have a new 243 arriving that I plan on using for coyote hunting and open country deer hunting. I'm thinking a scope in the 3 - 9 x range would be perfect.

I am a bit out of the loop for scope buying as I've been concentrating on wild turkey hunting and deer hunting in the "big woods" in recent years, applications for which none of firearms (shotgun or rifle) have a magnified scope.

I am not afraid to put down $$ for a quality optic (I have an Aimpoint Micro H1 on my "big woods" deer rifle), but have no need to be "big man on campus" with a "mega bucks" scope either.

That's why I now own 2 Tikkas and 0 Sakos. I just couldn't justify the fact the Sako was twice the price for little apparent upgrade in actual performance. I guess I am looking for the "Tikka" of rifle scopes.

My T3 .243win has a Nikon Monarch 4-12x42 BDC on it. Seems to work pretty well, not a wicked cost either.

But in all honesty I only have range time with it. No field

I would also go with something in the 4-12 range. It will give you a slight edge at farther ranges. I have a Vortex Diamondback 4-12x40 with the dead hold BDC reticle on my T3. Gives you a few hold over points without overcrowding the center of the scope. You could also look at Sightron S2. I have a 4-16 and it has some nice clear glass.

I have a tikka T3 243 topped with a 4-16 nikon monarch with a Kenton industries turret. Kind of a sweet set up for long range coyote whacking.

Burris Fullfield E1, excellent price, great ballistic reticle, lifetime warranty and sells for about $200 if you want a 3-9x40. Im no fan of nikons BDC circle reticle but thats just me.

Cheers!!
