Advice on Benelli Supernova Tactical 14" + collapsible stock

Short barreled shotguns have their limitations, unless you want to spend the money and thread them for chokes. Could also try to find the rare Modified barreled 14" Mossy 590A1.

That would be my concern as well . I have seen quite a number of people buy short barreled shotguns over the years....and then get rid of them very quickly due to very limited uses . Personally . I would not go any shorter than an 18.5 inch barrel......even most Law Enforcement and Corrections shotguns have 18.5 inch barrels.....

I love my short shotguns as much as my longer variations. One always comes with me to the range. I like their lightweight, ease to weild and ease of carry.
I often walk and traverse through a vast network of sand pits and bowels with a 12g popping off shots and shooting various targets.
My 12.5"s Grizzlies and modified bore 14" 590A1 are a joy when doing that.

Sounds like the 14" barrels would be perfect for close combat situations that LEO are involved in. But that's just me. There are uses for long barrels such as hunting and skeet, but the quick pointability of a short barrel in combat situations is most likely why the 14" is made.

My 2 shorty's aren't going anywhere.

"Entry" length shotguns are incredible handy and IMO they would be the norm for serious purposes if not for the 1934 NFA and similar laws governing shotgun barrel length throughout most of the world.

I had a Benelli Nova for a while but found the length of pull was a bit of a stretch. Ended up buying a Super Nova with an adjustable stock. I have a purpose skeet gun so this one is just for plinking. After a day of shooting steel with .223, .308, etc, it's fun to set-up at 50 yards with some slugs and here a thud rather than a tink.

Installed a Burris FastfireII as well.

Very happy with the quality of the Benelli.

I've owned two Supernovas. Most recently I had a 28" Max-4 that I sold for a Beretta Auto.
I bought the same Supernova you're looking at, a few years ago. I found the 14" barrel to be EXTREMELY LOUD. Much louder than the 28" version. The flame coming out was impressive, though. (Videos of me on YouTube under Urbansherpa1965).
I didn't like the collapsible stock, so I fitted a regular Comfortech. Much better, I thought. It was accurate for slugs because it had the ghost ring and post. I honestly couldn't get over the noise, though. My head hurt every time I pulled the trigger (without ear protection/ hunting)

Although I NEVER had a malfunction with either of my SN's, I was at the range once when I saw two, YES TWO, SN's that jammed.
both had the same malfunction. After being fired, the slide would not come back to eject the shell. Both guns had been recently purchased.

Personally, if I were looking at pumps again, I WOULD buy another one. Very solid build, but heavy, heavy, heavy.
Also, looks pretty cool for a ZOMBIE gun, I guess!

Hey everybody, thanks so much for all the input and advice!

I finally got to handle the Supernova 14" at a store today, and I have to say that it looked and felt absolutely fantastic. It reminds me from previous experiences that a person absolutely must examine and handle a firearm personally before making a purchasing decision. I actually went to two stores, with a list of potential purchases, specifically to get first impressions. We've all been there: we sometimes fantasize and research about particular firearms for months, but after handling it and taking a sight picture just once, we end up handing the gun back to the clerk and say "meh".

I that's what happened when I shouldered a Ruger American Rimfire Woodstock for the first time to day, it was $700 before taxes; it felt clunky, bolt wasn't smooth, and the wood felt like plastic! The CZ 512, on the other hand, was $100 less, and even though it was a wood-aluminum-plastic hybrid, everything about the rifle looked and felt right. When I shouldered the rifle, everything seem to balance and fit in the right places and I didn't have to strain to get an excellent sight picture.

As for the Supernova, even though I consider it a firearm worth owning, I've decided I just can't purchase it right now. Because after I shouldered that shotgun and imagined squeezing off a round, imagined the recoil, and imagined the resulting shot pattern, I realized that I just can't provide the necessities for this firearm to thrive (i.e. a steady and affordable supply of 00 buckshot and slugs).

So I'll have to wait to for a time when my resources are more plentiful and hope that the politics won't get in the way of me acquiring this firearm in the future.

Thanks again everybody!

So whole thread was an exercise in futility.

Sheer brilliance. Laugh2

He asked for "Advice on Benelli Supernova Tactical 14". It sounded to me like he wanted to learn about a product he was interested in, then decided against it. This is better than buying something sight-unseen and not liking it afterwards. Been there, done that.

To all you experienced Canadian Shotgunnutz, is the Benelli Supernova Tactical (with 14" barrel and Collapsible Stock) worth purchasing?
Because one of the things that concerns me is that there are at least SIX of these shotguns up for sale in the EE forums. Are there any ergonomic weaknesses, fit/finish issues, or irritating design flaws that makes people want to sell this particular gun shortly after purchasing it?

Thanks to all for reading and appreciate any advice!

Incorrect.

He loves the firearm, but can't afford it... and is affraid of Turdo banning it... yet is asking fine details about it, as if he was about to buy it.

However, isn't it time to let this go, and have this fella keep dreaming peacefully.

I own one. It's a champ when it comes to short barreled pumps. Quick round change overs are extremely easy with the pump isolator on the bottom of the pump. Easy break down, flawless extraction, extremely accurate pending you are as well with slugs at distance. The ghost ring sights kick as as well. Not to mention the ability to chamber 3.5 inch rounds makes for use of some very spicy shells. The trigger is very nice as well. There is no better short barreled pump available, it ####s on Mossberg and Remington.

The only thing I've done with mine so far other than shoot it is buy a Mesa 6 shell side saddle with integrated pic rail.
