Advice on buying. 22 semi

Browning SA and the Buckmark target are my 2 favourite semi’s and have taken piles of grouse , rabbits and squirrels. Not the most accurate for hundred yard target shooting but minute of small critter head and normal small game hunting range. No wrong answers here so hold and shoulder as many different rifles you can and pick one. You will have a blast no matter what you choose.

If someone had asked this question back in the 70's and 80's I would have certainly suggested the 1022; however seeing rifles come and go at our club I see a lot of new purchase 1022s experiencing feeding issues and accuracy seems to be hit and miss. What is being touted as a virtue (highly customizable) is partially the result of so many not being entirely happy with their rifles or throw money at it as a substitution for not putting in the time to become a good shooter.

Not my thing, but I have handled and shot a few GSGs, and honestly, they work and are maybe ergonomically desirable. A couple of models have a lot of pot-metal in them so longevity may be a consideration. They sure are fun.

Maybe consider a Savage 64? Not knocking the Ruger for all the fun reasons above, I own one. I just don't shoot it as often as the Savage because I personally find the Savage easier to disassemble/clean/reassemble after the fun times. ymmv

I DO really like the Sporter. Maybe I will see if canadian tire can order one. Thanks!

Great advise on the Savage! They are almost half the price too.

Thumbs up for the Savage also; all steel barrel and receiver, and very simple rifle. I bought one this year, just for a fun toy; I put it in a folding composite stock and picked up another 10 round mag and the big stick mag. Really fun to shoot. Basic rifle at our local Canadian Tire was $199.00, folding stock was $99.00 Mags are relatively inexpensive, had a PIC rail kicking around and put a cheap holographic sight on it. Not the greatest trigger, but this is not a target gun either.

CZ512 has bolt rifle accuracy in a semi auto plus the barrel can be swapped out. Just have to watch the barrel retaining screws so they don't come loose.

These are really nice, but the alloy receivers do break, not from use, but from dropping or bumping. They are discontinued I understand. CZ mags are great, but not cheap (I have two CZ bolt guns presently).

That blob of epoxy probably did more harm to your accuracy than good, most action screws and stocks will handle the receiver just fine, most new 10/22s without the band are 100% free floated.

If a receiver/stock really had issues they wouldn’t be free floating 24” barrels on much larger rifles

Perhaps. I can go to the range and test it with and without. If it’s better with the muzzle support I can always redo it. If better without, off it stays. But it’ll have to wait… not going shooting at -40…
