advice on ipsc pistol

Not a "Blue shirt'r" so I put STI first :D
I hope that drug comment didn't get me put on the pee in a cup list for greece

Heh. I've always wanted to put a stack of dixie cups in the port-a-loo with a little sign that says "Mandatory drug testing...Please submit sample to RM".

Stay away from the Para. They suck. Simple as that. The other two aren't much better choices. And none are legal for Production DIVISION. If you want a SA trigger (Standard or Open Div) go with a Tanfoglio or STI/SV. If you want a better Production Div gun go with the CZ Shadow.

I don't know why Brownings aren't more popular...I had a lot of fun with mine in std division, even with the Minor power factor in 9mm.

One decision you need to make before you decide; do you want to race, or do you want to have fun? You can have fun shooting a gun you like to shoot.

im new to the sport as well how much would a decent set of STI or SVI infinity would cost?? just to get an idea abot prices want to hear from you experienced shooters.

thanks

Check Freedom Ventures for STI prices and CRAFM for SVI. SV will cost you more, but you get a few things you don't get in an STI. It's up to you to decide if the extra cost is worth it. Some feel it is and some don't. I shoot STI's and never feel that my gun is what's holding me back. SV makes great looking/working guns, if you have the funds to get one or two, you won't be dissapointed

If you want to stay in 40 and Production, one of the guys at the IPSC club I shoot at is shooting a CZ Tactical in 40.

I'm pretty sure you can modify it up to close to Shadow standards.

Modify!!!!!A production gun????? Well I never........!!!!!!

by modifying i meant changing of parts with OFM parts as per Appendix D4 Section 19 and 20

"19. Original parts and components offered by the OFM as standard equipment,
or as an option, for a specific model handgun on the IPSC approved
handgun list are permitted, subject to the following:
19.1. Modifications to them, other than minor detailing (the removal of
burrs and/or adjustments unavoidably required in order to fit
replacement OFM parts or components, and/or identifying marks
which add or remove negligible weight to/from magazines), are
prohibited. Other prohibited modifications include those which
facilitate faster reloading (e.g. flared, enlarged and/or add-on
magwells, etc.) changing the original color and/or finish of a
handgun, and/or adding stripes or other embellishments.
19.2. Magazines accessible to a competitor during a COF must not contain
more that 15 rounds at the Start Signal.
19.3. Sights may be trimmed, adjusted and/or have sight black applied.
20. Aftermarket parts, components and accessories are prohibited, except as
follows:
20.1. Aftermarket magazines are permitted, subject to 19.2 above.
20.2. Aftermarket open sights (see Rule 5.1.3.1) are permitted, provided
their installation and/or adjustment requires no alteration to the
handgun.
20.3. Aftermarket grips which match the profile of the OFM standard for
the approved handgun and/or the application of tape on grips (see
Appendix F4) is permitted, however, rubber sleeves are prohibited."

So you can get new grips, new hammer, new sights, new trigger, new springs...

You XD will work fine for the course. Worry about getting something else after. If you decide its something you want to compete in. I just finished the course and I used my G17. Was a tonne of fun. Ill be sticking with the glock.

"IDPA IPSC and all that competition stuff will get you killed!"

I.P.S.C. shooters show an extraordinary ability at moving over, around and through difficult environmental obstructions while managing deployed weapons.

(Excerpted from Developing a Use of Force Education, Part III of III by Skip Gochenour.)

... I.P.S.C. shooters show an extraordinary ability at moving over, around and through difficult environmental obstructions while managing deployed weapons. To the very great credit of Dave Arnold, the I.P.S.C. Range Officer program is the finest safety instruction systems in the dynamic shooting sports. A good training regimen would include sometime spent at I.P.S.C. events. The practitioner can get the most benefit by using the weapon and carry system that is his daily wear. Shooting each exercise can be approached tactically if you are willing to accept the penalties assessed by the bureaucracy. Ignore the I.P.S.C. scoring system. I.P.S.C. and other dynamic shooting competition can offer useful exercise at gun handling skills. Tell the Range Officer that you intend to approach the problem tactically, shoot it as a training drill, and ignore the score sheet

Train and study hard. Then come and test yourself at N.T.I.

Tanfoglio Limited Custom II

I just wanted to add my 2 cents here..

I started with an XD in 9mm which i quickly out grew.. and i moved to a Tanfoglio Limited Custom and a LC II in 40. An excellent gun, well made, reliable, tough, good service in Canada (from Freedom Ventures).

Always wanted to try a Tanfoglio Stock II but have yet to find someone with one in Manitoba...

Good luck with your decision..

Hey look ... I'm holding the camera! Oh wait ..... f:P:2:

But seriously ... I used my Kimber 1911 in 9mm for the BB course ... worked like a dream ... however .... I just ordered a Tanfoglio from FVI to shoot standard class with ... like many others have said on here, use what you have to start with, move up when you can

My wife is going to take the next BB and she will be using her CZ Shadow, which is a great gun that a lot of people use in Production.

Don't laugh, I hear a rumour there is a meeting of the Cardboard Target Militia and they are planning an open revolt. No stage is safe anymore. A miss or Alpha Delta could cost you your life! Apparently they are tired of being shot at every weekend. Like who knew?

Take Care

Frank @ CRAFM is getting his shipment of SVIs any day now, You should check them out before they're ALL GONE!!! :)
