Advice on S&J hardware barrel and Daniel Defence gas system removal from stock barrel

DD Barrels can be had from Wolvereine Supplies.

They are all in stock. I just ordered my third from them this week.

10.5, 11.5, and 12.5 for the shorter barrels you want.

I also received my Rainier Barrel from OST last week. It is a very nice piece of kit. 10.5 carbine and 14.5 middy.

I would stick to these known barrel manufacturers.

I have a 14.5 sj and shoots ok but finish was disappointing.

Low pro gas block came with out set screws, don't know if this is normal for sj gas.blocks but never had answer to my email or call to find out.

The gas tube and pin would not fit either. I checked pin against others I have and they are same size so must be gas tube hole to small.

I used the pins I had on other gas tube for my blk build and pins and tube are good , must assume gas tube not in spec.

I also note that the barrels sj advertise and those advertised on other sellers sites all look parkarised but these are obviously not, so why have a picture of a different barrel finish adverised to the one you actually sell?

BBB barrels are gas nitride, not parked....and it's not like they are misleading anyone, says this right on their website.

I recently picked up a carbine gas tube from them as well, and it was really nice, much beefier then the other ones I have. Went together fine....
I am talking about the picture not the description,

It's a picture of one of the actual barrels IIRC.

Have you seen actual barrels?

This is what they look like, shiny look and i dont think they are supposed to have those 4 rings which is why i was not impressed with the finish. It looks nothing like the finish in the pics they put up.

Well, I finally found the deal I was looking for. ATRS Heavy profile, 10.5 inch with gas block and tube. Thats a pretty high quality barrel, I think it will be a great fit with the rest of the DD setup.

Yeah I dunno.... DD upper for $155, DD 10.5" BBL for $319, DD10"lite rail for $299, gas block and tube for another $100 that's a whole 'nother DD gun for another $875? I think that's what I would do

Thats about $500 more than I have the budget for. I know there are "better" ways of doing anything. But when your budget is tight, you do things the way you CAN do them, not the way others with unlimited budgets would do them. At the end of the day, I can always put the DD barrel back on the DD upper and switch the 10 inch to a different upper when I can afford something else. Which is what I will likely end up doing down the road. I did just buy the "ghost gun" combo from irunguns... so maybe that becomes my 10 inch build.

well just to cover a few things here
As stated by others in this thread that have see and or used the S&J barrels on the last 2 or so years.
They are controlled gas nitride finish with gray oyx and Teflon finish.
One of the best finish if not the best on the market today.
out of the almost 2500 barrels we have made In the last 6 years this is the first time we have had a complaint about the finish.
To be 100% truthful, I will list the issue we have had in the past, of which we have had none In the last 2 years
5yrs ago we had a small batch parkerised and some of the finish ended up in the bore, most were scraped the rest sold off and a very good price
2.5yrs ago we made the mistake of having a few 16.5 and 10.5 bbls nitride with the bbl ext in place, one of our ex dealers and former friend went out of his way to point this out to the public with out informing us, causing a mass panic.
This resulted in us offering new product at no charge to the end user, which of course is not a problem.
The small sliver marks you may see in a few of the bbls are chuck marks from the machine we use to install the bbl ext after nitriding, they should have rubbed offas they are just aluminum.
As for the photo of our barrels on the website, its almost impossible to take a photo of something shiny, at least its not within the skill set of the people we use, so the base product is altered to be able to show a flat look and the details of the product.
Again this is the first we have ever heard of this being an issue
As for the gas tube not fitting, we do not make them, but we do buy the best we can get,, gas tube should be a tight fit, but there is min / max spec, and we do had check and fit a very large amount of our products to make sure QC is top notch.
again we have sold many of these to the public and dealers, all over the world, this would be the 3rd one we have had that's an issue, out of close to 1500 sold from the same MFG.

Everything I have every bought from S&J has been excellent (just noticed your making a new ambi mag release... going to need one of those). When I do undertake my "ghost gun" build ill probably source many of my parts (likely including the barrel) from S&J... quality seems great to me and the price can't be beat.

Obviously in this case the marks didnt rub off and was sold in this manner, this is why i said im not impressed. It dosnt do anything to the function as it shoots fine but if i ever sell it effects value. If these barrels have marks are sold as seconds or blemish then i would not be complaining as I know what I am getting.

The gas tube is sorted with a little work and is fine now, as for the gas block it came with out set screws. I have purchased other gas block and all came with set screws. I managed to purchase set screws, but it would have been nice to have my call or email from couple of weeks ago answered.

Just ordered a 10.5 to go with my ranier arms upper. If quality is good that price can't be beat, looking forward to starting build #2 with some s&j stuff.

Just found a DD 11.5 light weight profile barrel, brand new on the EE. This is what I'm going to use on my DD build. That way I'm not franken-ARing a great gun.
