Hi All,

I am looking for some advice as to what scope I should purchase for my Sako. I plan to use it to hunt deer and moose in southern and eastern Ontario. I want something mid to high range in quality(price) but I am unsure what scopes would fit my rifle best as well as what magnification I should get. Would a scope that is 40mm be too heavy to carry around all day in the bush? I would like higher magnification for hunting in open fields but at the same time don't want to have something which will be too heavy and awkward to carry around all day.

Thanks for your help in advance.

a 300 win mag has a "bit" of recoil, so you want a scope that can take it.
IMO that is a Leupold VX3 3x9x40mm should do the trick nicely

You will get lots of other opinions I am sure

I just bought a 2-12x42mm VX6 to replace a VX3. The VX6 is, imo the best deal in the higher end scopes. You should be able to get one for just over $1000. The illuminated version will probably run about $150-$200 more. It comes with CDS turrets, which are really nice if you are going to be shooting at longer ranges.

If you do not need the CDS turrets (or similar) then take a close look at the Schmidt & Bender 3-12x42 Klassik, available from Wolverine at $1450 as it will give you excellent optics and quality really is top notch.

If you want to spend less than either of those two then the Zeiss Conquest is probably where you should look. A 3.5-10x44 will be just over $700 or so.
