I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on a spotting scope stand that uses a single pole with legs that lie flat to the ground? like this, but not too pricey ..

For TR shooting I used a Freeland single post stand, with the bipod type base. Ray-Vin scope mount. Fine if the scope is low, not so much if it is high.
Took a chunk of aluminum round, and mounted the post to it. Milled three flats on the round, drilled and tapped holes for three 14" long legs. These can pivot for storage, butt up against stop screws to keep them in position when the stand is in use. Works much the same as the unit in your photo.
