Seeking advice from Ithaca gurus - are you able to advise whether:

The Ithaca M37 Barrel Lug does anything except maintain the barrel in the correct alignment?

What commercially available magazine extension tubes (Choate??) might have the same thread as a m37?

What thread the m37 magazine tube has?

I can discern no play or forward movement in the barrel using calipers when the retaining nut is tightened against the barrel lug.

I am planning on adding or making a mag extension tube and the lug is of course in the way.

It is an old beat up but very much loved and used Featherlite that I would like to upgrade and use to get into some 3 gun matches down the road. Serial number is in the 600k but it has a removable interupted threaded barrel. Had this one for 30 years or so. Came with an 20 inch barrel and rifle sights and I replaced the butt stock with a one piece plastic pistol grip / buttstock when the original wooden one cracked about 15 years ago.

My preference would be to do away with the barrel lug and just use magazine extension tube barrel clamps to keep the barrel in alignment once I fugure out what tube extensions might fit or what the thread is. I beleive it might be the same as a 870.

The lug appears to be silver soldered on so removal should not be too difficult.

Any info Ithica gurus might be able to provide is much appreciated.

Many thanks in advance.

The lug should remain - it isn't something they put there for looks only. That being said, there is no reason why you couldn't relocate it farther forward, just like the factory tactical ones made by Ithaca.
