My new P226 classic .22LR is having some issues with the internal safety lever. I noticed it when I was field stripping the gun for a clean and the slide would not go back onto the frame.

It appears to be stuck in the up position, in order for me to put the slide back on i need to push down on the lever and all is fine.

Anyone familiar with this happening to their p226 frames? I am at a loss and cannot find anyone with the same problem as myself.

Yah just a regular remove the slide, barrel, spring + guide rod. Clean up the barrel, ramp etc of residue. So the safety lever is just jutting up a little bit and not flush with the frame. So when you go to put the slide on it catches on it. It was a non existant problem for a month and a half.

safety lever or trigger bar?? the trigger bar does stick up when reassembling, you have to either push it down and put the slide on or just push the slide with some force and it will go down on its own

this is normal

It isn't the trigger bar for sure 100%. It is the safety lever. It isn't the takedown lever either (100% sure on that as well.) As you press the trigger the safety lever goes up and it is supposed to go down as well. I use Hoppe's gun oil. However mine isnt going down to its natural state of rest. I need to push it down to get the slide on.

It's all steel vs aluminum so they need lube. Plus if it's new put your 300 rounds of CCI minimag thru and let us know.
Cheers

I get that too, but it's definitely the trigger bar. See the attached picture taken from the Sig Armorer's Manual.

I just took mine apart and fiddled with it to see if i could get it to do the same thing. Assuming i understand fully what part you are talking about. The only way it stuck up on mine was if i played with the hammer or trigger (decocked then cocked again for example), then i would have to push it back down to put the slide on. I never noticed it before because i don't touch the trigger or hammer for cleaning.

There is no "safety" per say on the 226, just a de-cocker (part #3).

The slide has a little block (part #42) on the inside, that gets pushed up before the pin can release, but you are describing playing with the trigger which moves the trigger bar, which includes the metal notch that protrudes from the top of it.

Please let me know which part you are referring to when you say "safety lever"

Hmm after cleaning it last night, lubricating the parts a bit. The safety lever is functioning as normal again... (wasn't last night, when I was thinking something happened to it). It must of had some excess gunk in it.

Lol, he means the friggin safety lever!

OP, that's exactly what it's called, and its spring is in the slide above the firing pin block. (Unless you're a right handed gansta, in that case it's to the left.) The sear pressing it against the frame can sometimes hold it up when the slide's not on, especially with thicker lube or grime in there. Just push it back down.

What? Now the slide material makes a difference to the frame??

Is this "Bad SIG Advice Day"?
