Advise for a New Shooter?

Any advise or suggestions on my grip, stance, etc from experienced shooters would be appreciated.

General speaking, if you go to a range, you see a guy shoot very good and high score, talk to him/she and learn from there. That is how I learned. It is very diffcuit to understand from internet or youtube video.

X2. Hard to do from a video.

Unfortunately, you have to also answer the question: what do you want to do?

Note that bullseye is different from IPSC which is different from PPC, etc., etc. and instruction you get from one person or 'expert' may be different from another, yet perfectly valid in its own context. Just something to keep in mind.

That said, some generalities to keep in mind (NOT based on your video):
Stance - comfortable, usually shoulder width apart, and usually gun hand forward
Grip - in your shooting hand: firm but not to the point you are shaking nor so loose you can't control the recoil/you 'limp wrist' a shot causing a jam. Your support hand does exactly that, mainly by slight pressure pulling towards yourself as you push out with your shooting hand (am sure someone will debate me on this).
Trigger - don't jerk the trigger, firm even pressure rearward. It should be a slight surprise to you when it breaks; if you start anticipating shots, you'll start pulling your shots.
Sights- the human eye cannot focus on three different distances (except if you are really luck and young). Focus on the front sight, keep the rear sight level with the front and depending where your gun shoots the point of aim on the target - but remember focus on the front sight.

Find someone to coach you actually while shooting if possible. Also, get more than one opinion.

From your video, all I can say is since you are hitting the target, good job! Nice pistol! And, enjoy the sport!

Lots and Lots and Lots and Lots of ammo, a good sense of self-criticism, well constructed drills (try pistol-training.com) and, well....more ammo! The Todd Jarret video covers grip, stance is a bit of a no brainer (face the target square and try not to look like your on the privvy). Oh yeah, and shoot more ammo than you ever thought you could - you should buy a reloading set up. One thing I did notice in the video, you're pretty tense through your shoulders - rolling them forward and 'shrugging' them up, that puts a lot of tension on the neck muscles, not good. Try to relax the shoulders a little it'll steady the platform that the gun is on.

Thanks for the advise! I do reload but it's time to get progressive.
