So I am home from another unsuccessful deer hunt...... I do not have alot of time to scout( 2 kids in all kinds of activities and a working wife) so I rely on friends who do have time to scout. I also hunt with them. I continually hear from them how many deer they see and how they have to shoo away deer from the end of their barrels so they can shoot good ones, but and it is a BIG but, everytime I go with them we see very few to no deer whatsoever. They say the same thing everytime "I have never seen it this slow here before" I am starting to wonder if they are hiding their honey holes from me. It seems when they go out with out me they all shoot deer? I am tempted to start calling BS when they tell me how many they see, without pixs I can't confirm their accounts of the areas. I find this incredibly frustrating, because I have a few spots that I am very confident in and almost always see a couple deer each time out. I have shown them my spots on the map and they have gone out there and shot good deer as have I but as I say all their spots mysteriously dry up of deer when I accompany them? Are they screwing me around or what could be happening?

If I had to ask whether my friends were lyin to me or not, I'd be a bit concerned about who I consider my 'friends'.

I trust my friends and what they say.....so not sure what to tell ya. Why not ask em?

I'd call BS. I worked at a butcher shop for a while and I got advice to check out a clearing on such a road and stuff like that and how they got to pick and choose the animal they shot. I've seen 5 bucks this year 4 in the dark and in town and one on private property and way to small to shoot 40lbs of meat tops. I don't know if people just talk hot air or what but I'm gonna be skunked this year as I have NOTHING I've shot in my freezer and on my first year. Mr. Friendly and Me are the only hunters in over 30 family members and all our friends so I can't call BS on my family or friends and their stories of deer.

Well - On the other hand, some people seem to have good luck, some dont... Of the eight guys in our camp, one guy has shot four deer in the last two years, and the rest have shot two in total. He doesnt get any special duties or watches, so you'd have to say it was luck.
In your case, you should bear in mind that a newbie is unlikely to get preferred watches, etc - so there may be a reason why your not seeing any deer. People tend to covet their sweet spots - for good reason.

I checked out a piece of land during the summer last year for deer potential. No water nearby, no bedding areas, completely surrounded by about 1000 acres of farm land. I couldn't find a single track, no droppings, nothing. I passed it up.

They took 4 bucks out of there last season and I look like an idiot.

Deer do move.

On the other hand, hyperbole makes for much more interesting conversation.

My brother and I went hunting on my f-i-l property for the bow season. Never saw a single deer.

Come shotgun season I almost ran out of ammo, again. Got two out of the roughly dozen that I saw.

s**t happens. Maybe you STINK!!!!:D

Thanks Guys, A newbie I am not to hunting, I just don't have some of the spare time these guys have to go scouting. Wrong way haven't used Irish spring in over 3 years. I think I used the wrong wording in my original post they are guys I work with and also hunt with, so they are aquaintances. Of course when they get a big deer out of these mysterious spots they circulate the pixs around at work, I feel almost cheated. I take them to my little hiddy holes and they score, decent deer.I feel that it is not a 2 way street. So from this point forward I will call BS without pixs! or proof in seeing the deer myself. Thanks again Fellas.

Time to find a group of guys that will help out even if u cant get there all the time, and try to get everybody in the group into deer. Us in my group fortunately have pretty much the same attitude, no one gives a crap who gets the deer just as long as we get into something. Sure its nice to harvest a deer, but just keep in mind, as I do, if u put in ur time, soon u will get regularily into deer.
