Hi
I am looking to put a red dot sight of some sort on my S&W 22a handgun. I would like some advise or ideas of what to use as I have no idea what I should get. I don't want to break the bank if I don't have to but I do not want junk. All ideas will be much appreciated.

Thanks Graydog

I have an NcSTAR Tactical Elecrodot Model D4B on my Ruger MkIII. Works very well. Paid $90 US for it. Fits on a Weaver base.

I have a tru glo I bought for $75 it is currently on my 586 I am very happy with it so far

I use a Tasco red dot on my CZ Kadet. Works very well and around $50 from crappy tire.
What do you think of your 22a?Where did you buy it from as i am thinking about getting one but haven't heard much about them.

I have a bushnell red-dot.

Seems to work pretty well so far. After about 2 years you will probably need to replace the battery (I just recently did this).

I am holding out for the new Leupold deltapoint as I hear they are pretty good, but waiting for more reviews (very spendy - but nice quality).

Look on EE for a bushnell red-dot or possibly a Nikon one as I hear they are fairly good as well.

Good luck in your search.

I put a Tasco Red Dot on mine. $50 and it's held up for at least a few thousand rounds so far. I'd recommend it as a cheap sight for a cheap gun. Helluva lotta fun too!

I have a vortex sparc on my camper. I love it. It's a bit "pricey" I guess at around 220 but it's been great.

Do the scopes/red dots get mounted on the slide?
They would take a lot of abuse if they are being racked every shot.

I've always wondered just how a scope can be mounted on a semi and still stay reliably zeroed.

Most quality red dots will stay zero'd even if removed from firearm
I have one on my shotgun i pulled it off and put it back on after a year in the glove box of my truck and it was still bang on perfect

I don't think I've ever seen a .22 with optics attached to the slide....not enough energy to handle the extra weight!

As for people running reflex sights on centerfire semis you need to buy a quality sight!
