Advise on .22 LR Lever Action - 50th Birthday (To me gift)

My BL-22 is the only lever 22 I've ever fired. Fantastic little gun, eats any crap ammo your other rifles don't like. Only down side is I'm a large guy and it is a very small rifle.

Since it's your 50th why not get them all! 9422, mod 39, BL-22, Henry Frontier. and Henry Mare's leg.

The 9422 model is younger then you so maybe a nice 1969 Marlin would fit the bill.

The BL-22 is neat with it's "flick the fingers" short lever stroke but the trigger is on the heavy side and they are not the easiest guns to take apart..... not that you will likely have to do it.

When I think of a classic lever action I think of Winchester 92's and 94's and the 9422 is exactly what you'd expect in a .22 version.

The Marlin's are nice but the action is not as smooth to operate and the regular length 39 is a bit long for my preference.

Henry's are good modern production and available. Good support as well but not really a classic.

My BL-22 was made well. Wood and metal were very nice but the cheek-weld on the stock was did not fit (me).
The short throw lever was fast and although the trigger broke crisp is was way too heavy imo. Because of its downfalls it eventually sat in the cabinet.....so it got sold.
The next time (if) I buy another lever I will have to fondle it some....

Have had a BL 22 for probably 35 years the only gun I will never get rid off.As others have said will eat anything for ammo and has never failed in the thousands of rounds me and my kids have shot through it.Any Winchester lever always felt like a rattly contraption

The 9422 is smooth and tight..... :)

As much as I love my Henry Octagon 22, Id rather the Browning with the octagonal bbl far more. The short throw on the lever makes cycling 2-3x faster if you're fun shooting and they come far better dressed if you'd like something on the fancy side.

As for a center fire, NO WAY would I go Henry simply for the reason I like side loading levers. Which, sadly they don't offer..

That all being said, Henry has EXCELLENT customer relations. Regardless of the age of your rifle, they stand behind their product to the best of their ability. Easy to get ahold of too.

My 2 cents. As a shooter I prefer the Henry. The short throwwas very hard on my BL22 as was the trigger itself. The Henry is smoother in both respects. For all other considerations like being your 50th and longevity etc the BL22 all the way.
I don't have any experience with the 9422 or model 39.

The only 22 levers I have had and still have are the Henry 001 and Marlin 39a.
I'll probly never sell either.. The Henry has had thousands of rounds of all kinds of
ammo and has never failed to do anything.. I love my Marlin but some ammo doesn't
feed well.

My local store has a sale on: Uberti Silverboy Lever Action .22LR for $540....tempting

You could git two for the price they want for them old 94-22's and turdy-neufs.

And why don't they start building them again?
I think they would sell like hawt cakes.

Tired of 10-22 this and 10-22 that.
