AE 150gr ammo

I'm new to M14s. I know they are picky with ammo as I plan to reload for it. My question is since I got a 200 Rd can of AE 150s are they on to shoot threw the rifle or are they to hot.? Thanks
 
I fired 500rnds of that through my m1a. No problems what so ever. If you really want some good brass for reloading, you want some Lake City 7.62x51mm brass. Try to buy some Federal XM80 ammo. SFRC (site sponser) has some in stock right now. And make sure to read reloading for the M14 by Zediker. Google it to find it.
 
Mine seems to like it, supposedly it's the same as XM80 just a softer primer and not Lake City brass.
 
Federal primers are notoriously soft and should be avoided for use with firearms that have free floating firing pins.

I hear that Federal has made specific ammo just for the m1A platform. item number A76251M1A Premium and the box says "for M1A"
 
I just picked up a SM so I'm hoping not to have any problems with this ammo. I also have 200 pcs of lapua brass coming for my reloads that I plan for the m14. Again I hope all is good
 
American Eagle ammo goes no where near my m14 type rifles. the problem is the budget brass.
I warn guys not to use it as I've personally had case ruptures and separations in saami spec chambers and of all the rifles I've built or tuned..... the TWO that have blown up were with AE 150 in the chamber.

on the other hand, I have fired a few thousand at least, federal 150gr Power Shok thru numerous m14 rifles over the years without a hiccup.
 
I sent an email to Federal asking if they were aware of any problems of using Product Code AE308D .308 150 gr ammunition in M14 or M1A rifles. Their customer service is closed until 5 Jan.

I have been searching other forums and can find several posts on this ammo being used successfully in M14, M1A, FN FAL, AR-10, etc. Haven't found a single complaint about ammunition malfunctions or damage to firearms. Accuracy seems to be the only issue with many firearms shooting better with 168 gr ammunition. I will continue searching.

I normally shoot Federal 168 gr MatchKing through my bolt guns with excellent results. As I don't reload, I thought the 150 gr would be a cheaper alternative to get more range time. I was planning to use some in my M305, but now I am going to turn this into a test and document any problems encountered, shooting conditions. If available, I will pick up another can of the 150 gr.
 
Anybody have experience with Winchester Super X 150g in the m305? (I've heard a lot of poor things about cheap winchester ammo in general, but nothing about 308 specifically)....

Hard to find 308 ammo that is less than a $1 a shot anymore... Found the Super X at Sail for $18/20, with the only other local option being Barnaul steel cased @ $325/500. The XM80 from SFRC is a good price, but then you have to add shipping on top.....

im scared to shoot barnaul steel case 308 in my garand and this is why

I like to hear what they have to say. I might just wait till my new brass comes in and cook up some reloads . I'll use the 150s in my AR10
 
The only issues i've had with federal brass was reloading it.

usually after 1 reload the primers wanted to fall out of the pockets , And that was on rounds that were not loaded hot or anything weird like that.

This wasn't in a Semi-Auto but everything worked fine for the first reload So the brass got 2 shots out of it before issue.

It was not till the 2nd reload i started to notice loose primers and that was that they had to go.

these issues developed in more than 1 cartridge type actually.

I ended up running into the city the weekend after that and buying NEW in bag winchester and Remington Brass. for respective chamberings needed.

I had good luck with both actually but that remington brass I bought was back in 2006 before all the bad rep stuff started happening with remington and the marlin (failing quality) type bs that happened with them.

I ordered recently some przi partizan 308 brass from Mystic precision and this stuff is really nice so far.

Its firm brass, in spec out of bag, and seems to be military spec as opposed to civilian , So its a bit thicker and holds a little less powder but the trade off is a good one if you ask me.

cost me 60$ for 100 bag , its 55$ per bag if you buy 500+ quantity.
I bought 300 (3bags). If it works great ill buy more.
 
I fed my Norinco M305 500 rounds of Norinco 7.62x51mm that were all cracked at the neck. I didn't notice they were cracked at first, fired over 60 rounds before I noticed one on the table cracked. Looked at the rest that were unfired and they were all cracked. Said @#$% it and just kept using it. All 500 rounds fired in the year. I am as well in the process of getting ready to start handloading for my M305. I have everything except the dies. I bought .303 British dies all excited to start reloading .303 british when I get home and realize I don't have a shell holder for my RCBS shell trimmer.

It's funny you've had that problem reloading federal brass. Most of the brass i've reloaded was either federal, or lapua. I've never had that happen with federal. Wonder if you just got a ####ty batch.
