So, as some of you may know from my previous thread in this section I took the plunge into the mystical area of the black rifle.
As a bit of a background, my experience with AR's has been limited to my five years in the CF. I carried a C7A2, and then while deployed a C8A2.
This is not to say this is my firearms experience, as I have been hunting and shooting for about 15 years now. But never had an AR of my own.
I decided on building an AR from scratch. Mainly to give me something to do (and spend my money on) over the winter. My experience with this is in the area of non-existent so I am expecting a shaky go at it.
I ordered an Aero Precision AP15 Stripped Lower from Kodiak Outpost. Can't beat the price at $149.99. I really would of liked an ATRS lower, but while I am not doing this on a necessarily cheap budget I couldn't justify spending that much on a stripped lower only, when I can put this one together for under that price. But as with everything, you get what you pay for.
Today, the receiver showed up in my mailbox.
The packaging was great. No way this would have been beat up while in transit.
Compared to the Army AR's I have handled this one seems a bit on the light side of things but they are built for a different purpose I suppose. If this was going to see the round count of what my C8 did, I would have dropped the cash on a higher quality receiver.
This will see moderate usage so it will work great for me.
I added the color myself with the aid of wax crayons. I snapped the pictures before I completely cleaned the area around the crayon so that is why there is some discoloration of the receiver.
It will be filled with an RRA LPK and fitted with an LMT tube and buffer. I as well have a MAGPUL CTR stock on the way.
I am excited to get this build started. I have a ton to learn, so expect to see threads full of questions pop up from time to time.
