Affordable Steel Targets

I have access to a large sand pit and would love to set up a reactive and static steel target range for myself. I am lazy and hate walking down range all of the time to set new targets and find shooting objects much more satisfying than shooting paper.

I have spent a few evenings looking around the interweb and am flabergasted by the prices I have seen. $140 for a static Turkey, $340 for a static Ram, $2500 for a small plate rack.

Anyone have any leads of quality more reasonable priced steel targets? Looking at the prices makes me want to buy a cnc cutter and get in the target game.

Old tie plates from a rail track can be had for free. That’s what I use.

I mostly get my targets from steeltargets.ca and X-Metal

Insite arms in Lloydminster AB has some decent steel IPSC targets and gongs with a really slick way to hang them on T-bar fence posts. Look at their CGN page for pictures. You can't buy online yet but email them to buy.

Range Rabbit is another Canadian source of steel targets, gongs, stands etc.

I wouldn't recommend Range Rabbit. I had to get a refund on my dueling tree since no matter what way it's set up, anything bigger than a .22 sends the plates flying off the damn thing. In the defence of the previous owners I did get a refund but still... What a terribly designed target. The plate on my hostage target has broken twice and my 8" gong I shoot out at 150m is divoted randomly by plain 5.56 and 7.62 FMJ... Lots of issues, I only ever got a refund for the dueling tree.
