Affordable sxs or o/u rifles?

Was just inspired by a mixture of ardents kitchen built sxs and the elegant rifles thread;

Are there good sxs or o/u rifles out there that won't cost more than a small car?

IE - sub $500?

Any caliber I guess, but presupposing it's limited to rimmed cartridges, 30-30, .303, 7.62x54r, etc etc?

I may be out to lunch, but having an sxs cape gun with external hammers in .303 or 45-70 would be the bees knees:) 30-30 would be a fun deer caliber too.
 
Not much chance my friends, $1200 for a russian baikal of questionable quality, maybe a used valmet 412 o/u, then it's up to about 10,000 for a good quality double rifle in the larger cals.
 
I thought this thread was about sxs shotguns, and I clicked on it...Last fall I bought a CZ bobwhite 20 gauge, I think it was $1100.

It's nice and I like it.

Double rifles? No such thing as cheap. The INEXPENSIVE ones aren't great, for the most part.

The Savage combo guns are pretty good, for thier purposes. I think a 20 gauge shotgun and a 30-06 lower would be great as a general purpose truck gun.

I heard of Remington had one in called the Spartan.I think it was imported from eastern Europe, possibly mfg. by Baikal.My Dad was looking for one, I think they were between production runs currently, but reasonably priced.Anybody with more info, input would be appreciated.

You are not out to lunch, and here is a VERY nice express gun ( O/U) for far less than $5,000!
AND, it is in a RIMLESS cartridge -this one is in 6.5X55 swede!:D
They make them up to 45/70.
Mine also came with an accessory set of 20 gauge barrels.

That is a very nice looking double for under five thou...but he said he wanted under five HUNDRED!!!

"Out to lunch" is pretty insulting, but "unrealistic" hits the nail on the head. Even the Baikal, when you can find it, is in the $1000 range.
 
Shot a Merkel 470 NE this weekend.

All I can say is WOW!!!!

I can see having a double very addicting.

But, I'm just a poor working lad.

You can sometimes find a combination gun for under $500, with a rifle barrel and a shotgun barrel, but two rifle barrels are tough ....
