Hey I have a remington 700 VLS .22/250. I want to put a high power scope on it but have limited Funds. I use this gun for Coyote hunting and target shooting and want to be able to shoot up to 400 yrds. What do you suggest?? I know tasco is cheap but how is quality? Bushnell lower end models any good? The Elites are a little to pricey for me.

Thanks

I personally think you will regret going with an economy scope on your varmint rifle. I bought a cheap Bushnell scope for my 222 when I first got it years and years ago and I got rid of it within a few years and replaced it with a better scope. I am much happier with it now.

Elites / Leupold VX1s aren't THAT much more expensive... why not cash in your bottles / beer cans, roll up your coins and try and make up the difference? You will definitely notice a difference between a "entry level" scope and one that's a few models up, especially if you want to shoot small targets at long range.

.... How about looking for a higher end/name brand scope in the used market ? ..... With Optics, it's largely true , that you get what you pay for. ....David K.

Contact Phil at Whitefalls.... he is a member here and sells Mueller scopes which are getting really good reviews lately. Super nice guy. I bought the Tactical Mil Dot Mueller from him and it is an awesome scope.

Tasco 6-24x40 at $99.00 will serve you well enough, not that great at 24 power but the 10-20 range is OK, lets face it, you are using it in mostly bright day time conditions and its great value for $99.00. FS

For an econo scope I'd reccomend the Bushnel legends. I've had one over a 300wsm for a couple of years with no worries so far. But as was said previously if you can afford better buy now and save money in the long run.

Thanks all This gives me some food for thought and will probly be looking for a used scope. Guess I just need to be patient till I can afford something decent. I hate being patient!

Well, you have a nice rifle, so you might as well put a nice scope on it. ;)
