I've been trying to find a semi auto .223/5.56 AR-15 style rifle in the $1000 range. I'm going to start with firearms that are off my list.

I'm not a fan of the bullpup style like the tar-21 or norinco type 97. I want something more tactical then a m14 so norinco and ruger are off too. The colt Canada 5.56 ar looks way too long and it's fairly pricey. Benelli MR-1 also pricey and not the style I'm looking for.

Now, the two rifles I do like:

The bushmaster ARC is badass. But the price is way to high. If it was in the $1000 range that would be the number one choice. SU-16 would be a affordable option, but I heard many bad things about them, like accuracy and receivers blowing up. I think they worked out the kinks though. Now if I took a SU-16 and bought some aftermarket accessories, I sure can make it look like a AR style rifle for around $1300 bucks.

What do you guys think? Any other rifles I'm missing?

Mini 14 or vz58 not a whole Lotta options and nothing will replace an actual ar15 so for people wanting a cheap non restricted ar15 look alike your going to be dissapointed.

Being that you said you don't want a t97, ruger mini14 or m14, there really is no option left other than cz858/ vz58.

If you change your mind about restricted status you can always get an AR. I just picked up a sig m400 enhanced off the EE for 900$.

If your dead set on NR, you need to up your budget

No man, I need something non-restricted so I don't have a deal with the BS. If a company made a non-restricted affordable Bushmaster ARC, they would make bags of money.

I do 95% of my shooting at a range, for non restricted fun in the bush with my wife I have a tavor and an acr, but frankly my 4 ARs are better rifles.

For a modern non restricted quality made firearm in Canada (not Chinese made) shooting a rifle centerfire round you're looking at minimum 2k.

You have to start accepting that reality and start saving your money.

tavor about 2400
NR acr about 2900 - 3300 depending on the barrel
XCR 2900$ i think? not sure anymore...

You've already knocked the best tactical 223 nr off your list. If you want something tactical under $1000 nr not one of the ruger , norinco you may have to change the caliber. Even then will likely be in .22lr or a pistol calibre. IE keltec, Mossberg, just right carbine. Another option would be to take a sks, ruger mini or whatever and sink into a after market stock. Frontier firearms has non restricted black rifles as a search. A lot comes up. Take a look.

kel-tec su-16 not restricted take ar mag under 1000 I have one its a ok gun don't expect an ar but you can take it in the woods with no problems

Anyone have experience with the newer su-16's?

thats facking crap!
cracked receivers etc
i wouldn't buy one for 100$

you can always pray to the magical unicorn for an ar180 to be on sale on the EE

Im not sure what your expectations are, a quality NR semi rifle in canada that is not a hunting rifle costs over 2k, get over it!

Honestly, I would reconsider the type 97.
Yes, it does look a bit funny and is not the greatest build quality.
But for under 1k used and NR, it is hard to beat.

I love mine, will never sell it. Will probably buy another one of the ones CanAM is going to bring in (if it happens haha).

even though I dislike Norincos and Chinese crap, the t97 is a much better rifle than a su16
Shot my t97 5 rounds, tried inserting a mag for a reload, decided it was sub par, then sold it for 880$

I remember you saying that jr carbines were a piece of sh1t and they always jam, then I bought one and it worked flawlessly and didn't jam once. I ran like 500 rounds and not one jam.

Mine was a piece of sh!t, sold it at 20% off too, maybe you should stalk me on here and pick up my leftovers.
