AFG vs pistol GRIP offical Thread

I have often seen people firing their weapons, forget that their VFG was even there. The grip just sits there, forgotten, as their supporting hand moves to the handguard or magwell. My thought is that people revert to whatever is most comfortable/familiar for them under stress.

I have tried various VFGs and the gen 1 AFG and couldnt get used to them, so it is the same for me. I just don't see the value in doing all that work in training myself to use a product I feel offers negligable advantages.

My personal preference is for a gun that is as light and streamlined as possible. Adding more weight and bulk to a gun rarely does me any good. Simplicity is reliability as far as I am concerned.

Let's not forget that VFG's were originally brought around when rail systems were shorter (M4 KAC RAS) and laser and light systems like the PEQ-2A were much bigger then todays units. After putting all that on a mk18 there wasn't enough room to wrap your hand around the handguard.

Grabbing the magwell might work if your shooting stationary from some exotic Tom Berenger sitting position but enter yourself into a situation where you are shooting on the move that thing is swinging like a god damn teeter totter.

I'm going to assume that's a typo and you meant vertical grip. Honestly, the only setups where I use a vertical grip now are on my PDWs were there's just not enough rail to give a proper handhold. Otherwise I find myself just using hand stops and an assortment of rail protectors. This tends to offer a better gripping surface for me with a substantial weight reduction.

On that note, my favourite vertical grip is the LaRue LT-Fug; Gear Sector for hand stops and sling mounts; Tango Down panels, low profile Magpul ladder protectors and LaRue index clips for rail protection.

I remember seeing a pick of your HK416 shorty with a AFG and a VFG together. Gun pr0n at it's best just of the exclusivity all items together.
