My good friend is in Afghanistan and needs a "handgrip" for his C-7. Could anyone please point me in the right direction, I don't know anything about the new accessories. Does he need new hand guards for the hand grip to fit? I couldn't talk to him very long, so I'm asking for any help.

I tried the search and didn't come up with much. Is magpull handgrip what I need? Is there any other tactical addons which are "must have" over there? Magpulls? Kit? I'm gonna send him this stuff asap, any help is appreciated. Thanks alot.

Spitzer,
What type of grip? The pistol grip at the back or a forward mounted vertical grip? The pistol grip(which I doubt is the one he needs) can be found at any shop like Wolverine, TSE, P&D. If he needs a vertical grip I would suggest he contact Dav's surplus about a GGandG UFIR Under Forend Intergrated Rail. This rail bolts directly to the stock handguards on any AR series rifle and thus allows the use of a vertical grip. I know P&D has Tango down vert grips(very nice!) as does Dave's surplus in B.C. Here's there link to Dave's.

Hope this helps. You could opt for an airsoft copy of the vert grips if price is a factor.

He needs a front grip. Is the Tango Down grip better than the GG&G? I see the GG&G has battery comparment, is that for a mounted light? Will they both fit the C7 without alterations? Cost is not a factor. He also metioned that he doesn't have a mounted flashlight for his C7. Which brand is good, Surefire?

i think the C7 has standard front hand guards.. so to mount any of that stuff, he needs to replace the handguards /w railed ones or install rails to his existing handguards..... pm some of the guys (maybe Robert Mc, can help you out) here that work /w the CF to see what's the best solution...

like these mounts/rails that work on existing handguards...

he will need an aluminium rail that will bolt on to his lower handguard, and a forward vert grip that will fit onto that. DO NOT get a plastic chunk of rail,as it will break. If you want to spend a few hundred bucks get him a 2 piece rail system from, Knight's Armamnet Corp,Yankee Hill Machine& Tool, GG&G,etc. What ever you get must not be a "premanent modification" so free float rails are out. Of course you can tell him to get his hands on a C9 buttgrip like most other folks do, which are free and plentiful in the system. He is making all kinds of extra cash over there, don't rush out and buy anything, he would have better luck ordering it in himself.

He's in the upper pay scale. He just doesn't have much time for that so I told him I would. Lately it's been busy. I'll email him and ask about getting a C9 grip.

The GGG grip has storage for spare batteries, if thats necessity than go for it. I like the TD grip its a little fatter and fits the hand well. It also has battery storage. Surefire integrated light grips are great. They cost a lot and do add a fair bit of weight. The light portion is not removable from the grip.

Side note: hr, he does NOT need a new set of handguards, however a set of non FF handguards like those mentioned by reaper would be a better option than just a pic rail and VG.

for the cost what I would do is..... find out what rifle he has, c7 or c8.... buy a new set ofgreen handguards for him, get the GG&G rail and install it for him and then get the handgrip of choice and mail it to him ready to be installed....

make life easy for him.... he is obviously a good friend so go the extra mile. if you want to go really nuts get him a surefire forend they are fairly inexpensive and easy to install..... make sure to get some rail covers also.

Don't send him anything unless he promises to bring back a bunch of paper-weights that are shaped like AK47 30 round magazines. He then must promise to sell the paper-weights to me for dirt cheap.

Or an RPG7. :D

Nope just use the standard handguards that comes with the C7.... I found that heat sheld for the handguard the holes are out farther on the handguard and made it less cozy to shoot with, I removed them or possability is to drill a hole closer to the delta ring for the C9 vertical grip to go through.

Really the only cost is a 5 cent washer and a bolt.

I'll be using this method when I go overseas....Its cheap, everything I need the wpn tech has and it works.

Why spend money on a gun that really isn't yours, It might switch hands with other people, aftermarket parts might go missing. At lease with this method im losing under a dollar.

As for magpulls, Im just going to use zap straps and guntape... Again mags will be switched, parts might go missing.

Is there any program that exists for Canadian citizens to donate needed equipment to our troups that are on active duty overseas? I remember a US site that was providing equipment to US troups - I think it was "adopt-a-sniper" or something like that.

It cannot happen unless you have a definate point of contact, any mail addressed to "Any Soldier" will be destroyed by the EOD folks. Get a contact and inform them to expect a package,or guess what? Kaboom it goes.
This would be an easy thing to set up, get a contact,he puts together a list of needed item sand send out the request to the organizer back home.

If he can't get a C9 grip for some unknown reason would the GG&G "UFIR" fit the C7? Here's what I gather so far.

GG&G AR15/M16 Under Foregrip Integrated Rail (UFIR)

TangoDown Vertical Grip

SureFire X200A LED WeaponLight

Magpul 5.56 NATO x6

Ditto to RobAk

IF you want to buy a better light - get a M961MU -- or get him a better end cap (the MU) for the Classic 600 series light that is issued.
