African Trophy Hunting

having in safari hunting in preserves is far better than the alternatives - ie the land being torn up for some sort resource extraction, poaching, or lack of economic input leading to poverty - leading to so many of the conflicts in africa at present.

big game hunting is a renewable - eco friendly economic activity that supports many people and communities in africa. and if the people/communities involved can be smart and not overhunt species the activity could be carried on indefinitely. - now that sounds like a pretty good alternative to more shanty towns, crime, illness etc that plague so much of the continent.

Try the Disney channel....probably more to your liking and more inline with your uninformed view of African hunting. Sorry, not even worth the bandwidth to try and educate you!

I dont know if I will get flamed for this or not

What is the point of trophy hunting other then stroking your ego cause you shot a lion or leapord?....I cringe evertime I turn on wildtv and see an african safari where some ego maniac is shooting a Lion, Leapord, Hippo.....ect....I think its disgusting its not even hunting you drive around in a truck till you see an animal then you shoot it at 1000yds oh man what a thrill.....lol...I dont think its sporting at all.

I dont get the point of shooting anything you cant eat just for the thrill of having it stuffed and in your home.

Please shed some light

Well, I've never been African Safari-ing, but I sure would love to! I'd also love to shoot a big Alaskan Griz if I could (one day I hope:cool:), and love to have the monster stuffed in as menacing a possition as I know they can be in real life, right by my pool table. It's the thrill of the hunt, man. Just cuz ya don't eat 'em, doesn't mean you shouldn't shoot 'em. Not to mention the value of the hides, financially speeking, as well as the sentimentally. How is that wrong?????:stirthepot2:

Oh please...You come here with pre conceived ideas about "ego maniacs" and you aren't fishing for an argument?

your right I came here not knowing the reasoning behind it but now I do. I'm not fishing for an arguement but obviously you are considering your not taking into account my last post.

Why should we prove it to you- Do a bit of research yourself.

Why reasearch? I would not even know the first place to look for the real answers so in turn I used this vast community of knowlege to help shed some light for me........face it if we all knew everything about everything there would be no forums or even internet for that matter so relax bud unless you got some info for me then all your doing is trolling in this thread........not one post from you has been helpful thus far.

If you want to share insite positive or negative please do so guys but stop posting its not worth your time thats just pathetic......the time it took you to type that you could have clicked the X at the top of your screen or even better added to this tread which could be used in the future for people to find out the facts of African hunting.

grow up

yes sir instead of being a #### why dont you post usefull information instead of trying to start a fight?......do you have any usefull information to share or are you to good to help out?...

Everyone settle down....srt4u2nv....if you do a search you will see two posts in the last couple of months slagging hunting, particularly in Africa. Some of the posters felt only hunting the way they did or hunting game they liked was ethical hunting. They grouped all others as unethical "trophy" hunters. You will have to forgive the people who have jumped on you...since they were also involved on the pro hunting side...it was a long and emotional discussion.

On a separate note....How is Trenton/Belleville doing these days....my Grandmother use to live at the end of the runway at CFB Trenton in the trailerpark by the old drive in.....I use to spend alot of time there...particularly between deployments...

You're not fishing for an argument? Did you think making statements like you did in your first post would make everybody smile, and say, yeah, you're right? Everybody loves being called an ego maniac, and to hear how it so "disgusts you" to see an African hunt on TV. (FYI, the part in italics is sarcasm, there's some helpful info for you)

Why reasearch? I would not even know the first place to look for the real answers so in turn I used this vast community of knowlege to help shed some light for me

Here's some more helpful information for you: You complain about people reacting poorly to you....well you managed to edit info into your original post, and claim to be so enlightened now, but you still left the statements that did the most offending. If you're so understanding of hunting in Africa now then why would you leave that there unless you're looking for more people to have a negative response. Next time you're "just looking for information" don't start out running people or their actions down when you don't know anything about the topic. Ask the question politely and you'll get a much more positive reply.

example

I'm unfamiliar with hunting in Africa, and I'm curious as to how things work over there. What happens to the animals after they've been harvested, are they used as food? How do you process all of that meat? What cartridges are the most popular, and what ranges would you expect to shoot at? Are these hunts strictly trophy hunts? Are the animals hunted for conservation purposes, such as over population?

Things like that might work better. Basically don't go making bold negative statements about things even you claim to know nothing about, and then say you "just came to find information, so leave me alone big bad gatehouse:("

Well I don't want to African Safari Hunt, and never will. I will never shoot a Lion, for the "Romance" of the hunt as one posted earlier, nor will I shoot a giraffe or Hippo because it is "humbling"
You are right in what you said about how a person is raised and so on.
I don't believe in hunting simply for trophy, or parking yourself in front of a lion so can you shoot it and get the rush. If I were to see things that way, then hunting for me would just be a thrill seeking mission like bungee jumping etc.
Hunting means more to me than that.

Others however believe that shooting lions, giraffes, and elephants is the ultimate in hunting, that's fine for them. It's like beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

We both might be car nuts, you love Italian imports and I will only drive American Muscle cars. You like formula, I like Stock.

What is important is that you stay true to yourself and what you believe.
For me, I find it best to just skip the threads on guys who just returned from Africa. I have lots enough info, lots enough arguements on it, and have heard enough stories on it so as to be informed, so why hop in and ruin their moment, with my hunting beliefs, if that is what they enjoy.

Here, I will shed some light.

You are completely ignorant about this topic, and when a person is completely ignorant about a topic, they should do some research prior to coming to a conclusion.

Well original a$$ uh I mean poster, I guess I'll hit the red X as you ask cause this fellow wrapped it up. Just before I go,IN case you dont read completely before responding. Do you also support the antis in their cry for a handgun ban because their not meat getters? Clueless SOB with a gun. Almost makes ya wish he was on the other side

Does the hunting you speak of keep hundreds from starving like the meat and trophy fees do in africa?I would suggest yourself and the other nay sayer go offer even without a gun. Theres one animal in particular you'd have a soft spot for. Ya its given up the freedom of flight and plants its head in the sand to ignore reality

Thanks for the helpfull info I guess things could have been worded differently as to not offend anyone I'm sorry you guys take every post that may be against your "view of hunting in Africa" as an arguement.....do you not expect people to see things differently?.......why is it that everyone here thats being a #### to me thinks they are speaking for everyone? I know for a fact more people support my origional post but wont post here due to the way you guys defend you self with negative and demeaning comments instead of information in a meaningfull way.

Why do I have to conform to the way you guys think? Am I not allowed to have my own opinion? we are not under Liberal rule just yet fellas and till then I'm sorry but you are jumping way over board on this topic.

If you knew me #### you would see I am one of the more active people in trying to get people here to stand up for their rights as gun owners.

you also FAIL for not hitting the X

This is likely the best post in this thread so far and I agree 100% now if only we were allowed to have our own opinion here it would be great.

Hey Fellas "gatehouse,bronco-mudder, OutdoorChet" is is ok for us to have the above opinion? seeing as you guys are the self appointed approvers of opinion around here?.....I await your approval :kickInTheNuts:

I'm open to other forms of hunting I may not wish to take part but I can underastand the desire to go to Africa. What I'm not open to is having my opinion approved by a select few if they dont like my topic they dont have to post just like when I see a "look at my African trophy" thread I dont post my opinion because the thread is not asking for peoples opionions.

Its to bad there are people here who feel they are right to run anyone who doesnt share their same opinion into the ground. We would likely see alot more people sticking around if these things didnt happen.

Trenton sucks wish I didnt live in this dirty little town one side of town smells like rotten eggs and the other smells like cardboard. But other then that I'm close to my dad who is getting older and we have alot of time to spend roaming the woods at his farm which makes up for the crappy town of Trenton.

FAIL X3 :D

and thats why one asks questions my opinion was skued when I first made this thread but after recieving some good information my opinion has changed. I still dont believe in Trophy hunting but there are some aspects of African hunting that are positives and I can respect that.
