After effects of the T97 Ban

it has nothing to do with the fact of being a bullpup. Its simply because it could've been easily converted to full-auto. You could've turn the switch to full-auto but nothing happens whereas the tavor, you cant

You are taking the enemy's word for it? Do you actually have an first hand experiance with the gun and how easy it is to convert?

I think it has had a limited result in a few ways.

1. It has alerted the firearms community to the over-politicised upper echelon of the RCMP.
Exposing them as statist a** kissers.

2. It has brought out the open LEO paranoia of a new fire arm being cheap enough for the masses. I think this is a legitimate fear. Not so much your street LEO, allow me to apologize, but more the Chiefs Association types. There was never such fear over the few buying very pricey rifles like the SA or the SL8 and Tavor, they priced themselves away from mass availability. However the Type 97 is another story, scary looking and widely available due to pricing.

3. Much due to number 2 above, it has exposed the manipulation of the RCMP in how they attempt to designate firearms. Given a years time and unlimited access to gunsmiths and machining equipment, they still don't want to explain why the Type 97 is so easily converted to full auto??? If it is dangerous, fine, but show us publicly why it is so easily convertable. There is evidence or there isn't. There are rules for how a determination is made and the process must be transparent.

4. The minority government at the time did a groundbreaking step in announcimg compensation for property. While property rights are not yet established, I support the concept that if you change the status of my property or demand it, you bought it and we deserve fair compensation.

Just a few short ideas to start you off.

Well, it's one more gun we can't have because our glorious overlords don't like it.

What have the effects been?

Well, it's shown that the RCMP isn't on our side (as if we needed any more proof of that fact) and it's proven that gun registry leads to confiscation at a later date.

I hope when the long gun registry gets scrapped most gun nuts go out and buy a scary looking non-restricted like the Tavor, Swiss Arms, or the FS2000 just as a big f*ck you to some of the more freedom hating people in places of power.

Yes, it was SO EASY that it took the RCMP a full machine shop, a dozen weapons techs, and 18 months to convert one rifle... and the details of how it was done have never been revealed.

With a full machine shop, a guy could crank out a Sten from some tube, music wire, and bar stock in less time than that.

It showed us that with 100% certainty, that the long gun registry exists for the purpose of confiscation. No one can deny that anymore.

This is absolutely, 100%, spot-on.

I don't think you would need a machine shop for a Sten. I think I could do one with hand tools and a drill press in my garage with a bit of part time effort.

+1 on the registration = confiscation comments. This clearly shows how it works, but the non-gun owning public won't or don't care.

Agreed... time, tools, will and knowledge... that is all that is needed... and of course, for the RCMP, an agenda

I see your 'hand tools and drill press' and subtract you 'drill press.'

In Pakistan, perfectly functioning firearms are turned out by craftsmen using hacksaws and files. ;)

In fact, I would submit that it's easier to make an open-bolt FA than it is to make a closed-bolt semi.

True, I was thinking of making it look presentable as well. Open bolt FA is a piece of cake to make work. Having to have a hammer/striker, firing pin and the other bits for closed bolt semi would make it much harder to do at home.

Hmmm, maybe we should discuss all this over a good bottle of scotch someday?;):D
