Hello Everyone,
I've Posted a Similar Thread in the Percision forum with little responce so I though I'd Try it here as well.
I've Been doing some homework on the different barrel Manufacterers and have found that I have ended up with as many unanswered questions as answered ones.
simply I'm looking for some first hand feed back as to which brands and countours to consider as well as availability and customer service.
I've read a few scarry stories regarding fit and finish as well as some unhappy customer relations issues which I'm sure is going to happen.
Any input and oppinions would be apreciated.
Oh yah its for a savage Model 10 in .308
Thanks

I bought a Shilen for a Savage 111,prepaid in Sept. Was told 3-5 months it took over 7, never received an explanation and the supplier gave me a negative rating in retaliation for the bad rating I gave him. I personally will look for a supplier that will order without getting full payment. Shilen informed me that all their orders are filled in 2-4 months, so any delays have got more to do with import export paperwork.

No kidding. Paperwork with the government can take time sometimes; go figure.
Try waiting for a Heym or Lothar Walther. It's a year to 18months sometimes.

I have used several Gaillard barrels which are very good and his delivery times are pretty accurate and of course since he is local he is not at the mercy of the whimsies of some bored US border cop. I have used a Shilen select match that is also a good barrel and appears a bit smother ( easier to clean) than the Gaillard barrels. I also realize that importers are at the mercy of Customs when it comes to delivery times, I had a chamber reamer held up from PT&G because some idiot US Customs agent insisted it was a gun part as the word "Remington" was on it ( it was a 280Rem reamer.)

I had a PacNor supermatch grade stainless ordered in by the gunsmith that built my 338-06AI of a Sako m75 Greywolf. Took 4 months in total with ordering in blank barrel, building the caliber and the additonal work I had asked for on the rifle, plus the Sako Optilock Ringmounts to come in.

On month ago, I got my Kreiger barrel ordered in november!
The PT&G reamer took 6 weeks from order to delivery.

If you're looking at using a special bullet or want the ultimate in accuracy, you should get your own reamer, if not simply ordre a prefit Shillen barrel.

I ordered a prefit Shilen Select Match barrel for a Savage and am really happy with it. I'll probably be ordering another one from Jerry soon.
