Aftermarket BLR sights

I looked around and wasn't able to find anything obvious either. In the end I bought some florescent orange paint and painted the front bead, which i liked for a week or two. Then I felt compelled to buy a red dot scope- very small and light, doesn't change anything with the handling of the rifle, and while it looks a little non-traditional, I works great and I like it. If you are considering options for sights, you may want to do a little looking into a red dot. Here's a youtube link if you are interested.

Thanks I'll take a look at he fire sights and the red dot option. Saw a guy at the range the other day with a red dot on his guide gun, didn't look to bad

I believe they are called Leupold, as in optical aids! :p All my BLR's are scoped with Leupy's! Old eyes = new seeing eye lenses for the aging eyes. Sad, but true! Shooting survives for extended times with good glass! ;)

I replaced the front and rear sights with the Williams Firesights. You will have to specify the long/short action as the front sight will be a different height.

They were very helpful and within two weeks my rifle was outfitted with the new sights. Very easy to install too.

There is nothing wrong with a good set of glass on a rifle. There are pros and cons to both. For longer distances, glass will give you the finer detail to see where the shot is going to go, but is more susceptible to jumping due to jitter or steadiness of the shooter. It is also very susceptible to going out of adjustment from a sudden shock, such as the rifle tipping and falling against the ground or being jarred about on a quad.

Open sights are very reliable at closer range. In my opinion and experience, there is no perfect answer. I've been there and done that when it comes to having a scope go out of adjustment and not know about it until you sight in your quarry and miss it by a mile. Also have had the converse with that animal just a little out of my comfort zone with shooting open sights and screwing up the shot royally wishing at that moment for a 3 x 9 to be mounted on the rifle.

You have to reconcile it with yourself. I keep open sights on my truck guns and #4 Mk2. All the rest have 4 x, 6x, 3x9 and 2 x 10's on them.

I have had three or four BLRs with replacement rear sights - a standard Williams fully adjustable sight - and left the front bead in place in all cases.

But on my "old faithful" BLR 81, there is a Burris Signature scope...........

I put a 2.5-10x......................50 on my BLR.
Goofie as all phook, but hay, it works for me.
I can't do that 2x, 4x and maybe I could get by with a
6x up to 150 yards.
Need to learn to shoot lefty to use the 20 vision in that eye.
They all laugh at my and my fifties, but you might as well use
what you are.......aye?.......... :p

I just bought a BLR in 358, it came with a Williams Fire Sight and I am impressed, I probably would not have bought a set as I had a set of XS on a Marlin 1895gbl and I liked them as well. I would have to try both at the same time to know what I like better.

How do find the handling with a 50 power scope? I really like the way the gun handles with out a scope on it?

That would be a 50 mm objective lens the person was talking about, not a 50 power scope. I think he said it was a 2.5 to 10 power scope.

I used my BLR without a scope but found (even before I got old and my vision got crappy) that a scope was a definite asset. I use a 1.5 to 6 power scope, and leave it at 1.5. So there is not much magnification, but the light gethering capability of the scope, and the "no fail" aiming with the cross-hairs have put venison in the freezer at times when open sights may not have done the trick.

I really like the factory open sights on the BLR I just bought.

I reckon you have very good eyes............................ :p

The rear sight on the BLR has always been the ONLY thing I thought was not up to snuff for these rifles. But I did not buy my first BLR until I was about 33 or maybe 34, so perhaps my eyes were already starting to get lazy with age.......
