Any idea which one would fit best, closest w/o too must trimming, perhaps in Pachmyer prefits. I know there are none exactly specified, but I know that some of their dimensions fit other firearms.

Try a Limbsaver R3 ... and with that much gun, don't "cheap out" ... get a
'smith to install it for you. Nothing worse than a crappy pad job by an amateur
on a good rifle. No offence to your woodworking skills, but a good pad installation
comes after a lot of trial and error. Experience is a great thing.

RANT ON

I don't know why gunmakers sell guns with crappy or none at all recoil pads. The Tropicals are not cheeep guns and should come from the factory with a proper pad. I have a Remington 7600 in 35Whelen with no pad @ all, just a hard plastic plate. Look at all the BDLs that were sold over the years w/no pad

At least Remington is starting to get with it with the R3 pad from the factory, even on the cheeper 700s

I'm with you pal ... but in a way, glad they often don't. Enough wood left on my 7600 - 35 Whelen to trim ( for square, and to change the pitch angle to match the rest of my guns) and instal a proper pad. Made getting my exact L.O.P. easy.

The 700 CDL in .25-05 I just bought already has an R3 pad on it. Nice pad, and well-fit too. The big bonus - 3/8" groups at 100yds. with a handload of 54gr. H4831, 117 Nosler BT and a Federal GM Match Primer. Happy Camper ? - You bet ! Now, gotta go look for Bambi next week.
