So I've just picked up a mint Winchester 1894 but I cannot say I like the sights on her. I would like to put on some better sights but I know nothing about them! can someone please make some suggestions and steer me in the proper direction? And no, a scope is not an option, that will just take too much away from the beautiful aesthetic.

thanks!

Is this a pre 2.5 mill serial # or post 2.5 mill ser#. If it's post 2 1/2 mill get a nice receiver apature sight, but you will have to drill and tap for it, not recommended on pre 64.

I'm a fan of the Williams Foolproof (aka FP) and 5D sights, have used both.
You want aesthetics? Get a Marbles' tang-mounted peep, or a Lyman tang-mounted peep. I prefer the Marbles because it's windage-adjustable, but both are great. I had a Lyman #2 on my Winchester 92 in .44-40; it was accurate and beautiful. And I have another that I've yet to mount on my Marlin 336A.
Downside? $40.00 for the Williams, $100 for the Lyman, $135 or so for a Marbles. Which sounds expensive until you consider most of us will pay $300.00 for a scope without a thought.

My pre-64 was drilled and tapped so I put the Lyman peep on it back in '61.

I wasn't sure these were still made until I Googled Lyman receiver sights. They are still available.

A couple of years ago I added a Firesight

The sight picture from this combination works well for me. I removed the disc so I have what some call a "ghost ring".

I think it's right around ser 2 mil or about 1950-51 that win 94 were factory drilled for sidemounts.
