I have a friend with a 6" Ruger Security Six, and his eyesight is starting to wane. He was asking me if I could find a fibre optic or other high visibility front sight that would fit his revolver.

My initial searches have not been successful, so I'm wondering if anyone recalls, historically, if hiviz sites were ever commercially made for the Security Six, or if someon's successfully modified current production front sights to work on a Security Six?

Any leads would be very much appreciated, thanks!

Not sure what's out there, but I've often wondered how hard it would be to drill a small hole through a typical blade sight and install a fibre optic tube.

A custom rail mount on the rib of the barrel, combined with a modern micro red dot would be pretty sweet.

edit, just did a quick search and it looks like Ruger has come out with a universal red dot mount for many of their pistols including the Security Six!

Here it is on a Blackhawk,

From back in the day, fiber sights were not a thing. So finding a factory fit is not likely. I have looked at other brands or look at current revolver as to MAY work with the help of a gunsmith.

The Blackhawk is pretty sweet.

I have seen instances of a notch being filed into the front sight blade and then being filled with a coloured epoxy.

I have some rod, red or green, Am thinking about doing one of mine, ( for about 3 yrs) 1mm and 1.5mm rod.
Have more than I need these days .
But still think I am going tp mount a red dot, I do have a sw scope mount, but too big and I want low and neat. no rail .
My eye is better than it was 20 yrs , but in a dark indoor range , sometimes hard to pick up a sloped front sight, sq ones are OK.

A company in the us makes a red dot plate, for about 60.oo forget the name at the moment.
Burris make a flat universal diys plate ( or EGU
There are some differences in Ruger security 6 depending on early or later serial number, but don't think that would matter on sights.

I use to have a SS snub nose Ruger S6 with a scope on it someone had done for some reason ,too much time and beer??????
Quite the handful with hot 357m loads ( that some young guy would try out)

On the s-w guns , you remove the back sight and just screw the mount on, earlier ones you need to drill one more hole and tap it to install the front screw.
I have not played with the ruger for a few years, so not sure what is out there.

That mount is made by Griffin Hill
Doesn’t look they ship to Canada
If it was imported I’d buy one
