I have a savage model 11 .308 short action . Original stock is getting old and tired looking . I bought a spray called Stock tonic at a gun shop that was pretty much Armor all. . what do you guys recommend ? I want something I can buy in Canada and still use the detachable mag.
I have never bought a different stock for any of my rifles so any help would be appreciated .

Boyd's are great and inexpensive, but being a laminate they are a little heavier but way stiffer. Put them on 2 Rem. SPS and they're great. For the price which is about $150.00 shipped to the door and with exchange etc included!

I found that the inletting on the Boyds stock I bought for my Sav 116 was off enough that by the time I'm done inletting it myself I will have to bed the action. I'm OK with doing it, but would caution anyone buying a Boyds stock that there may be a little more work than they are expecting. I am not surprized that the action did not drop right in, but mine was out enough that the bolts would not thread in without taking a fair amount from behind the recoil lug. Hence I feel that I have to bed the action to have it shoot accurately.

George, I have dozens of Boyd's stocks and the only time that I have seen inletting require (when not specified on the website) is when the wrong model was ordered... Boyd's is diligent to list specific requirements for fitting right on the product page for each stock... 95% are straight "drop-in" fit.

I don't like the new Boyd's website. Either they don't make a non-thumbhole, non-tactical stock for a Stevens 200 anymore, or their website sucks.

Would a Stevens 200 in 223 be the same as a Savage Model 11, short action, blind mag centerfeed?

It's still on there. You just have to look a little closer. BTW, the Stevens 200 and Savage 11 are the same action.

SoBored... I agree the new website does indeed "suck!" It was so much more intuitive before and had a much better search engine... It also used to be much better when comparing products... As it is now, you have to open a product then back out and open another product... Horrible web design.

Weird! I must have a bad one or something. The only thing I had to do is take a bit off behind the recoil lug, but I think that's a bad spot to start messing with. I wanted to bed it anyway so I'm good with it. Stock is a little slippery too. It may just be for showing off at the range and I'll use the original synthetic when I go drag it around the bush.

The site does kind of suck now, but it seems to be getting better. I also noticed they offer stocks for Savages with detachable mags now. Are these new or did I just fail to see them in the past?

I have to agree that the website is a bit lacking, but I don't find it that hard to find stocks.

Phin, as long as you double check your action length by measuring, center to center, between the action screws and know for sure your rifle is a centerfeed then this should be a link to your stock choices:

g-manz35, I just noticed the detachable mag savage stocks a week ago so I too think they are new. I could be wrong though!

I'm currently debating whether to go with their featherweight thumbhole or the prarie hunter on my Stevens 200.

Cant seem to find it right now, but there was a thread about a few guys here going across the line and picking up tacticools and bringing them back across the boarder. Im thinking of doing the same thing here soon and was wondering if everyone been caught doing this and if this is a big no no? I want to pick one up for my stevens 200.

Do they still not ship stocks to Canada if the base price exceeds $100.00? I'd like a laminate for my A-Bolt, but it's gotta be checkered, so the price exceeds the allowable.
