Hey I have a Savage Mark 2 with a cheap plastic stock and heavy barrel and I am interested in upgrading it. What are the laws on importing from the USA say from Boyds or something similar? I am thinking of a laminate or wood stock rather than a chassis. Or are there Canadian dealers with stocks? Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.

You can order direct from the Boyds US. They ship by US postal service. Sometimes Calgary shooting center has them.

I've upgraded 2 Savage heavy barrel stocks. One with a BOYD'S laminate, and all the extra goodies req. (trigger guard, mag well plate) and one by adding a black, ACCURISER cheek pad to the shi**y plastic stock. I think the Boyd's upgrade was about $250 all-in at the time, the accuriser solution cost about $60 all in at the time. The BOYD'S was by far, the nicer looking of the two...but the accuriser addressed the real/main issue=cheek weld. I liked the Boyd's stock (workmanship/fit/finish were all SUBERB), the only complaint was how heavy it is/was. Faced with the same challenge again today, I'd bypass the idea of getting the Boyd's and add the riser instead. Looks like it came from the factory with it in place, and alignment (eye/scope) was perfect.
This Savage doesn't have sights, so yes cheek weld with the scope is one concern but another part of my concern with the plastic stock is how flexible the forend is. Have you stiffened yours with fiberglass or anything? I like using a bipod when target shooting.
Quick google search didn't do it for me. Maybe my filter is throwing a wrench into the gears.
Several options from Boyds will be a decent up-grade if you can get your hands on one - Only issue I've found is that there is very little stock material in the action screw area - To get the most out of them, you really need pillars along with the heavy bottom metal & appropriate trigger guard.

I had this same issue on Boyd's stock with the savage rimfires, ordered 3 of them in one order and they all are the same....one of them split/cracked parallel with the laminate while tightening to 15 in/lbs, and Boyd's evaluated over the phone that I must have over tightened, didn't care to do anything about it lol...that experience has turned me off buying Boyd's for any other actions
I ended up fitting some scrap maple and gluing them in the stock, little bit of inletting with a dremel and then have a much better foundation to install the pillars
that's a sharp looking classic stock, I hope to catch one of those in the classifieds some day
I have a Mark II (Sporter barrel) in the cheapo-factory stock I prefer it that way - nice and light - a Boyds stock may add more weight to your rifle - good for bench not-so-good for everyday carry - just my 3 cents adjusted for inflation

A point I was about to raise before seeing this post is mentioned above. Namely, E-Receiver Savage Mk IIs (current models, long action) are easiest to change due to availability of current aftermarket stocks.
Pre-E-receiver (Lakefield/Savage) Mk II models came in many variants over the years (short action, 1 or 2 action screws, etc) so it may be worth noting what type of Mk II one has and buying rifle stocks (EE or other) if going the classic wood. Fitment is possible but it takes work.
